Bobby was so petulant early on.

How about his not wanting Pam to have a job?

Bitching at Jock about spending his own damn money.

After JR's shooting he repeatedly threatened to leave again if Jock did not let him do whatever he wanted.

It was a great scene, but Jock was 100% wrong.

He was worse than Ray about it.

He was nowhere near as bad as Ray. Ray acted like he wanted Donna barefooted and pregnant waiting to clean his boots.

It was Jock’s company of course but I can kind of see Bobby’s side of it. He was running the company and Jock made him look pretty ridiculous by taking money out of the company without telling him. Perhaps Jock should’ve communicated his intentions a little better.

I don't think Bobby was being unreasonable.
Yes, it is Jock's company, but he should have told Bobby
As president of Ewing Oil., Bobby has to make business deals.
It damages his authority and trustworthiness, in the view of other parties, when he can't close a business agreement
because such a decision was made without consulting him.
Even worse, it damages the reputation of Ewing Oil.
Jock should know that, and JR certainly would know that

I can't quite remember the circumstances, but it is a discussion(argument?)
many couples have about work/home balance.
Not saying anyone was right or wrong, I don't remember,
but it was surely enhanced for dramatic effect.

I suspect Bobby was dealing with middle child syndrome, yet he was the youngest of the four boys. JR was THE heir, Ray was the love child, Gary was the spare but turned out to be a disappointment (sounds eerily familiar) and Bobby the youngest.

I'd imagine drinks were on the house when JR was born and it was Jock's life commitment to teach the first born how to run Ewing Oil. Gary just couldn't cut it with his father and elder brother but was the apple of his mother's eye. Bobby I fear was left to his own devices so had more to prove. I don't see Bobby as being petulant in those early seasons...just someone determined to stand up and prove themselves.

I view Bobby as the perfect blend being a Ewing and a Southworth neither of which JR, Ray or Gary could claim as Bobby could easily switch between the Boardroom and Ranch.

Robert James Ewing could be unbearable at times. Of course he had Miss Ellie on his side after JR's shooting and she would threaten Jock to keep Bobby sweet and at Southfork.

Loved the conversation between Sue Ellen and Bobby when she was loved up with JR and she told Bobby it was now his turn to be stopped regarding being the president of Ewing Oil. She also challenged Miss Ellie about siding with Bobby over JR.

Bobby was so self centred and neglected Pam when she really needed his support trying to find her Mother. He was patronising and would forget lunch dates. It was surprising how much time he spent talking to Connie too.

During his political run for senator, Pam was with Bobby at the office for a meeting and he said to her, "Honey you know where everything is, get us some coffee please".
I would have told cocky power hungry Bobby where to go!

Which is why once Pam became a partner in Ewing Oil much later on she switched to herbal tea. Deep down she harbored resentment over the coffee incident and never forgave Bobby.

Although the two DALLASes could never decide whether Bobby's full name was "Bobby James" or "Robert James."

But it's like characters' ages and alma maters: the writers are never going to keep 'em straight.

According to THE EARLY YEARS prequel, Bobby and Pam first met at a Southfork barbecue in 1951 (which must've upset Victoria -- already in her teens at the time) although the Jock's Trial episodes assert that Bobby was born in the fall of 1952 and Pam just after Christmas.

Maybe the tykes were holograms projected from heaven by Pam's napping pre-natal spirit brain...

That said, early-Bobby was kind of petulant, sure, but later-Bobby was smugger (and would never have tolerated Morgan Fairchild's more predatory version of Jenna).

@Snarky Oracle!

I tend to imagine Morgan Fairchild's Jenna would have had Bobby forever running round in circles and Francine Tacker's Jenna might have tamed him and calmed him from being that petulant hot head. PP's Jenna had a completely different effect on him but we'll not go there!

I'd forgotten how close Bobby was to Connie as well as to Phyllis. He kind of used them as agony aunts. He talked to them more, apart from the very early days, than he did to Pam.

I thought Bobby was born in 1949, so he met Pam in 1951 (are you sure you mean 1951?) when he was 2 years old or not yet born? Weird! Sounds as though there could well have been two Bobby's after all. There was always confusion over the shot of his drivers licence in Charade which apparently had his DOB as 1966.

Surely that's when he passed his test?

Otherwise he was only 12 when Dallas began. Now that really is weird!

So which "Bobby" died, Robert?? It can now be re written and no need for that dream. Question is, what happened to the other one? .........The mind boggles.

Well, that's the thing -- there are contradictions. In 1980, Bobby was born in 1952. During the dream season, Patrick's actual birth year of 1949 is used. In the prequel, he looks to be about four or five in 1951.

Otherwise he was only 12 when Dallas began. Now that really is weird!

And when he's kidnapped in 1978, his ID suggests he was born in 1966. Making him 12.

Some of the inconsistencies are accidental; some of them appear to be jokes.

Bobby Ewing's age, death and resurrection are part of legend, as is the death of Paul McCartney of the Beatles and his replacement with a lookalike.

Maybe we are supposed to take the average of the four birth years and go with 1954, although anything in the Dream has to be taken with a grain of salt. And the early years movie premiered during the dream so I can’t expect it to be accurate either.

Which brings us back to either 1952 or ‘66. It must be one of those and it’s definitely not ‘66.

Dallas never was consistent with the ages of their characters. Didn't JR's birthdate change multiple times too?
