Cast reactions to the dream

I have to kind of agree with Patrick Duffy's wife(I think it was) that said the only way it could work was to make it a dream. I wish there was another way, but all of the other alternatives just seem too far-fetched, and probably would have been just as damaging as the dream resolution. I know most here seem to prefer keeping the dream season as reality, and not having Duffy back, and maybe had the dream season been executed differently, I could feel that way, but honestly, I missed the Bobby character during that season; didn't anyone else?? Yes, I hate the damage the dream scenario did to the show, but I didn't like the direction the show was going without him. Had Pam not gotten involved with Mark so fast, maybe it could have worked a little better for me, but it was literally after, what seemed like only a few episodes, she was hot and heavy with Mark again.

Yes, Patrick made his bed, and perhaps he should have had to lie in it, and I didn't agree with a lot of things that happened after he returned to the series-the JR and Bobby show, but as season 9 was executed, I think the show did need him back. Whoever it was, and please forgive me for not taking the time to search for the thread where this forum member originally came up with the idea, but whoever originally suggested it should be Bobby's dream, and not Pam's. Yes! This. To me, while still being a dream, this would have been the least damaging way to go. The family visited him, and talked to him about things that were going on. Maybe Pam found Mark, but it was only in Bobby's dream(or nightmare, rather)that they got romantic. Angelica could have been part of his dream only as well, but Sue Ellen's realistic recovery from alcohol, Ray and Donna and the adoption could have been kept, along with Wes Parmalee, or whatever his name was in season 9(Ben Stivers?). This way, the entire season wouldn't have been lost. It's too bad Patrick decided to leave in the first place, or as others have said, that they didn't leave an escape route, in the event that he decided to return, but when all is said and done, I think whoever came up with the idea of having it be his dream instead was right on the money.

Part of me always wanted a scenario where J.R. himself would be revealed as being behind Bobby’s “death,” seeing over every detail of the coverup from when Bobby flatlined until he reappeared. Yes, this theory also requires much suspension of disbelief, but which theory presented doesn’t? Perhaps Katherine was still working with members of organized crime? They could’ve helped her with her hit on Pam with the car but Bobby got in the way and J.R. then had a problem on his hands. Bobby fouling up the hit on Pam and Katherine’s death didn’t sit too well with those in charge and so J.R. had no choice but to fake Bobby’s death and move him into witness protection in another country until it was safe to return.

I am on Episode 4, "Resurrection" of the infamous "Dallas Dream Season". I haven't watched these episodes in ages and so far this season is really shaping up to be much better than I had remembered it. I am looking forward to how all of this unfolds, but so far I am intrigued!

It is a shame that in the "Dallas Universe," this season is null and void, which begs the question, at what point exactly in Season 8's storyline did Pam's dream begin?

I also need to ask, did she dream up her hairstyle for all of Season 8? Because when Bobby is still alive and they get re-engaged she is wearing her hair in a very sleek bob with bangs, but when she finally wakes up from her dream in Season 10 (or nightmare - depending on who you talk to) the bangs are present but her hair is noticeably a lot longer. Her nose is also noticeably thinner (but that's for another thread). How long was she asleep for that she was able to not only dream all of that plot but her hair miraculously grew in the process (and her nose got thinner).

Leonard Katzman, you gots some 'splaining to do!

Maybe that was also the time, when her age mysteriously jumped back for several years?

If the rationale for making it Bobby's dream is to cherry-pick aspects of the season to keep as real, then I think that makes it way too complicated.

Unfortunately that won't work because of the scene where JR is alone in Bobby's office after buying Christopher's shares but wishing he had Bobby to fight with instead. It's clear from that that JR believes that Bobby is dead.

There are always loose ends unfortunately. Maybe we can say that he knew he wasn’t dead and was talking to him “wherever he was in hiding” at the moment.

Bringing back Bobby from the dead and declaring Season 9 Pamela's dream has left so many huge plot holes that you could drive trains through them.

It's best to just not over-analyze it after all these years because it's just mind-numbing. To go along with it and keep your wits about you you have to:

(a) Suspend belief
(b) Be devoid of all common sense

And also:

(c) Watch the Return To Eden mini series first to see how it should've been done! :)

The exact moment where Pam's dream begins is in the Swansong episode (i.e. Season 8 DVD finale) right after Ray and Donna talk at night and then it cuts to the next morning at Pam's house. The dream ends in the Season 9 DVD finale (Blast from the Past) right after Sue Ellen walks into J.R.'s Ewing Oil office, the bomb explodes and debris falls onto the street below, and then cutting to Pam in bed.

In the Knots Landing universe, the dream is real, and post-dream is an alternate reality.

A big continuity error was Ray and Donna's little house. It got flooded during the dream season and they spent a bit of time living in the main house at Southfork before the Tony adoption storyline, yet Ray and Donna weren't back living in their old little house post-dream.

I really don’t think it makes a di if it was Pam or Bobby’s dream. We still lost the beautiful plot lines for Ray and Donna and for Sue Ellen. Most of the actors weren’t really going to share their true opinion until much later. At the time, I loved Patrick Duffy and really wanted him back. In retrospect, I think what they did to the others was extremely unfair. I love Larry/JR but he really had too much power. He wanted his way regardless of how it affected others. The behind the scenes really was a good old boy network. This shows especially as it becomes all about JR and Bobby in the end. Victoria Principal gave a 2 year notice of her intention to leave. I don’t think it mattered to her one way or the other. She was probably thrilled to have Patrick back her last year on the show.
