Commonwealth Games: England win netball gold on dramatic final day and more

Well done England - how exciting was that!!
felt so sorry for Scotlands callum Hawkins and just how dreadful that people were taking photos /selfies of his collapse
Quite Awful

England's netballers stunned overwhelming favourites Australia, and Scotland's Callum Hawkins collapsed while leading the men's marathon, on a dramatic final day at the Commonwealth Games.

The Roses, having reached their first major final, claimed gold with a 52-51 victory against the hosts thanks to Helen Housby's last-second winner.

A full replay of the netball final will be shown on BBC Two from 09:25 BST on Sunday.

Chris and Gabby Adcock won mixed doubles badminton gold in an all-English final, before Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge added the men's doubles title.

There were also medals for England in the wheelchair marathon, table tennis, squash and rugby sevens.

Scotland's Robbie Simpson claimed bronze after compatriot Hawkins' misfortune in the marathon, but the country's basketball team missed out on a podium finish on the Gold Coast.

Well done to the relay teams, GOLD medal - so exciting

England won gold in both the men's and women's 4x100m relays on the final day of athletics at the Commonwealth Games.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey anchored home the men's quartet, holding off South Africa's 100m champion Akani Simbine.

Lorraine Ugen then resisted Jamaica's double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson to take gold for the women's team.

Morgan Lake won high jump silver, Laura Weightman took 5,000m bronze and Scotland's Jake Wightman got 1500m bronze.

So pleased for her - well done KJT a gold medal

England's Katarina Johnson-Thompson claimed heptathlon gold at the Commonwealth Games - her first major outdoor title.

The 25-year-old led after the first day and then went 31cm clear of the rest of the field in the long jump.

She threw over 40m in the javelin and safely negotiated the 800m to win gold ahead of Canada's Nina Schultz.

England's 18-year-old Niamh Emerson won the 800m to climb from fourth place and take the bronze medal.

Missing this man, who represented a clean sport and the most fantastic athlete I have ever watched

Sadly, I've not been that enthused by the Commonwealth Games this year mainly because of the time difference with Australia meant that the events mostly take place when I'm asleep and by the time the highlights are screened, I have seen the results on the news already. It's a pity because I've always found the Commonwealth Games to less intense and therefore more fun than the Olympics and with a lot less commercialisation.

oh I agree @Angela Channing - I feel i have missed a lot of the athletics like 800m, 1500m etc and when I watched the show on BBC2 "highlights of the games" it consisted of very little viewing or showing final lap and an awful lot of jaw jaw by Claire, Gabby and co

I'd far rather less chat and far more seeing races

The only one i really enjoyed listening to is Michael Johnson and Mark Foster (and afraid when Rebecca Adlington came on she went on mute!! Why is she on the BBC!!???)

least Birmingham should be a bit easier to follow in 2022!! (eek!)

Something is missing without Bolt!! but hopefully another / new Bolt type runner will appear in the near future, a lot of the English runners / sprinters bode well for the future, both men and women

It's the problem with screening highlights when many viewers will already know the results, the BBC seem to think live chat of an event is better than a recording something that happened a few hours earlier. I'm not sure I agree with them.

Mark Foster is a excellent pundit as is Michael Johnson and I also really like Steve Cram's commentary. Claire Balding and Gabby Logan are overrated and on screen far too often.

Did you see the segment in the closing ceremony where Birmingham introduced their city as the next host of the Games? It was the most brilliant piece of choreography and camera work that I've seen on TV in a very long time and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. If the Birmingham Games are anywhere near as good as their introduction it will be outstanding. I couldn't find it on YouTube but here it is on BBC iPlayer, starting at 1 hour 11 mins.

Oh I agree, Gabby by name and by nature and i find her quite rude at times, she interrupts people before they have finished and gestures ++ with her hands.

My dad says BBC stands for the Balding Broadcasting Corporation
She is never off TV and I find her Wimbledon Highlight coverage painful, again more talk and little tennis

I think Steve Cram is fab and I miss Brendan Foster, 2 great atheletes of their day and im always glad to see Micheal Johnston, such a wonderful analyst and commentator

I cringe when i see helen Skeltons of the world presenting sport, she is awful and rebecca Addlington as to be one of the MOST awful pundits
She goes on mute!!

I have still to watch the closing ceremony, I got a bit bored and did some hoovering instead! Will try and see it on iplayer @Angela Channing
