It's really exciting and moving, and simultaneously pulpy and mythic, with everyone and everything interconnected just like they were in the original series (at its best). Empire is often those things too, but with its songs and celebrity cameos, it's also a music show. Plus, the blackness of its characters and the complexity with which they're portrayed makes it also feel kind of political, sometimes subversively so. New Dynasty includes many of the same soap tropes as the other two but tends to be more farcical in their execution. But that's just based on watching the first fifteen episodes of each. My tidy little theory might fall apart after that.
