[QUOTE="Spooky Owl!, post: 336380, member: 57984"] Paulsen was brought in some time in the season which opened with "Who Shot JR? and gained favor with Leonard Katzman with his skills. He began writing individual scripts and then was made a story editor at some point --- apparently before receiving an on-screen "story editor" credit for Season 6 (per DVD count). To me, the show really tightens up in the last half-dozen episodes before Cliff's suicide attempt in Spring 1982, so I assume Paulsen probably had something to do with that.. He continued in that capacity, as story editor, in Season 7 and 8 (again, per DVD count) and came back for Seasons 10 and 11, leaving DALLAS to go produce the ninth and final season of DYNASTY. It sounds like he was asked to return to DALLAS in 1989 but he didn't want to, which is understandable given where DALLAS was headed (Patrick Duffy later admitted that they "lost objectivity" towards the end about what qualified as a good story). Howard Lakin, for the most part, replaced Paulsen, and let's just say Lakin wasn't quite as good.' Paulsen was also supervising producer for Season 7 of KNOTS LANDING, which is controversial -- it's okay, and not my favorite year of the spin-off, but it sounds like there was a lot of politics afoot at KNOTS at the time and Paulsen made his exit after just one year, going back to DALLAS.
