[QUOTE="Spooky Owl!, post: 338210, member: 57984"] Yes, in fact some folks called the Lechowicks "terrible people" and the couple apparently began politicking against Paulsen who'd been an outsider (from chauvinistic DALLAS) who'd usurped their position, leading Michael Filerman to view Paulsen as some kind of hack. I'm the first to agree that Paulsen's work in Season 7 of KNOTS was imperfect, but how much of his work was compromised as a result of the on site politics is an open question. In any event, Paulsen wanted out... Peter Dunne did excellent work on KNOTS and there's no denying it, but many of us feel the changes he brought to DALLAS -- where he and his writers seemed to feel the show needed to be "reformed" -- were far mor destructive than the mistakes made on KNOTS during Paulsen's reign. KNOTS was a show so artistically nuanced and vibrant that the story structure could be as loose (or as tight) as they wanted it to be; not so on DALLAS, where Dunne's rambling narrative just came off as unfocused, stumbling, and even smugly PC. Both shows suffered for the switch of the 85/86 season, but DALLAS was harmed the most -- which, admittedly, wasn't undone by Katzman's high-handed use of the dream resolution upon his return. (David Jacobs admitted that he would have used a different explanation for Bobby's revival and told Katzman the idea was "terrible"). Paulsen, ever the company man, defends the use of The Dream, but I'm convinced he wouldn't have used it either had he been in control of DALLAS himself.
