Jock or Pam

I'm going to say Pam.

In the event that Jim had lived, I would have loved for Jock's character to have lasted longer. I was livid when they introduced Wes Parmalee/Wyatt Haynes into the story line. I remember thinking, if they bring Jock back as this man, then this is the point where I stop watching Dallas. Jock was written so well and Jim Davis did such a phenomenal job at playing that role. His character could have never been successfully re-cast. It would have failed just like when they tried to re-cast Miss Ellie. I'll repeat what has already been said, 'Jock is a legend'. He lives on in the story as if he never left.

Pam's departure was hurtful to the story. Bobby was finally free of his partnership with JR. Pamela was finally seeing Cliff for what he was. They were in the middle of determining how they would deal with Lucas and Jenna. Pam finally learned she could carry a child to term. They had a lot of potential story lines left with Pam still in the picture. I hate that they had her abandon Bobby and Christopher. I don't think that ending fits her character. I think you would have had to kill her off for her to leave them. If the show was hoping she would come back, they could have had Katherine or creepy Mark Graison kidnap her and let the viewers come to their own conclusion as to what happened her. Pam leaving and the dismantling of Ewing Oil , to me, was the beginning of the end of Dallas.

the dismantling of Ewing Oil
I don’t think this one ever gets enough credit. Losing Pam, Donna, Sue Ellen, etc. all did its damage but the company was just as much an important character as well for all those years. Without it there was no longer anything for everyone to fight over. J.R. and Bobby going their separate ways and starting their own companies just didn’t have the same impact.
