Love you."

Lucy hung up the phone and turned her attention back to the pool where John Ross and Tony were swimming. Lucy thanked God for Tony. With Charlie and Christopher both away from Southfork, John Ross desperately needed a new friend.

Lucy frowned when she thought about Christopher. Pam hadn't been to see Miss Ellie at all. She hadn't even brought Christopher over to see John Ross. That was strange. When push comes to shove, a Ewing is a Ewing."

"JR seems… different somehow."

"He is. A little anyway. He finally got complete control of Ewing Oil. That gave him less reasons to stir up drama in the family. Then… there's Sue Ellen."

"What about her?"

"I don't really know what happened," Donna shrugged. "But things have changed between them. He really loves her."

"He's always loved her," Lucy reminded her aunt. "Never stopped him from treating her like dirt."

"True. But I don't know, Lucy, like I said, it's just different between them. Something changed. Pam would know more about it than me. She and Sue Ellen are very close."

"Yeah. Wonder why she hasn't been to the hospital? Or even to Southfork?"

"Cliff is in very bad shape. He's heartbroken over Jamie. Pam probably has her hand full dealing with him."

"I guess. Still seems weird."

"I agree it's a little strange. But maybe she's just waiting for Sue Ellen to get home before she comes to see her."

"Maybe," Lucy muttered. She had a feeling about Pam that she couldn't shake - a feeling that something was very wrong.

***

"I don't know, Jack," April said, setting her wine glass down. "Maybe you shouldn't get involved."

"I don't see how I can say no," Jack sighed. "Cliff is asking for my help. And Jamie loved that man with all her heart."

"But your heart's not in it, is it?"

"No," Jack admitted. "JR is a bastard. And Cliff and Pam are right. All of us warned him to stop messing around with Angelica. Pam told me even Sue Ellen begged him to let it go. He should have known better."

"But?"

"But he wouldn't have gotten Sue Ellen hurt on purpose. And as much as him and Jamie disliked one another,he would have never done anything to hurt her either."

"Destroying this Ewing man won't bring Jamie back," April said softly.

"I know. And a lot of people will get hurt. People I care about. I want to help Cliff, April. But I just don't know if I can do this. I don't think the revenge is worth the carnage."

***

"I'm not crazy, JR," Sue Ellen's weak voice came from the bed.

JR closed his newspaper, stood up, and walked to sit down on the edge of her bed. I believe you truly believe you saw Bobby. But I saw him die. I saw the heart monitor flatline. I saw the breathing machine stop. Honey, I put him in the ground."

"JR…"

"I tell you what, honey," he said, reaching out to stroke her hair. "I have a whole team of investigators trying to find the people who took you. I'll ask them to check on this Bobby thing too, okay?"

"You will?" She asked hopefully.

"I will," he assured her. "For you, I will. For you I'd do anything."

"Thank you, JR," she managed a weak smile.

"You're welcome, Miss Texas," he bent down and placed a soft kiss on her lips.

"I dreamt about someone named Mandy," she abruptly changed the subject

"Oh?" His body stiffened and his face darkened. "What about her?"

"You and me in front of a fire. You said you left her for me. I told you I didn't want you to do that. Then I saw her face. Beautiful. Dark hair. Perfect eyes."

JR grimaced. He had the urge to put some distance between them, but forced himself to stay put. "You want me to tell you about her?"

"No. You don't need to. I remember how I felt."

"And how was that?"

"I thought you loved her. It hurt me."

"I never loved her, Sue Ellen. Not like I love you."

"I...I know. I remember...when you said you left her for me, I said I didn't care. But I did, JR. [QUOTE="CeeCee72, post: 271229, member: 5055"] I don't own any of the characters in this story and no copyright infringement is intended. This fic is an alternate timeline where the dream season wasn't a dream. It picks up of after the last episode of season 9. *** Life Is But a Dream Part 15: *** "Aren't you going to the hospital to see Sue Ellen?" Pam looked up from her food and grimaced. "Absolutely not. JR is there." "Pam," Mark chose his words carefully, "you and Sue Ellen have always been very close…" "I'm glad she's alright. "Because I think you and Cliff are wrong about this and a lot of people are going to get hurt." "The only person who's going to get hurt is JR," Pam growled. "And he deserves everything he has coming to him." *** Daughtry hung up the phone and walked to the coffee pot in the corner of his office. Bobby Ewing and Dr. Ellis would be in CIA custody by midnight. His orders were to tie up loose ends at Graison Research and to get JR Ewing under control. Graison and Kenderson would be easy to control. They were both up to their necks in illegal activity. A well placed threat of exposure followed by a promise of protection would handle them just fine.
