Over the years I've convinced myself there was a story to be told between JR and Valene. She was terrified of him. I have this image of a youthful JR being a little uncomfortable around women. It's not until we're introduced to him in 1978 we discover the lothario. Perhaps JR had a secret crush on Valene while she was seeing Garry and in one turbulent drunken night JR had his wicked way with her. Valene discovers she is pregnant and bolts Dallas and Texas without Garry or JR knowing the truth. Somehow JR and his men catch up with her and discover Valene with a baby. Whether Lucy was the daughter of Garry or JR I think a great story could have evolved around the four of them. Missed opportunity.
