Because they were desperate and had been living in an economic shit show for four years. They obviously didn't think it could get worse. Perhaps if the "opposition party" governed on behalf of the people and didn't start new wars themselves, a demagogue like Trump wouldn't be president. Four years of "Weekend at Bernie's" rehabilitated Trump's image in the eyes of his voters. The fact that the Dems didn't hold a real primary in 2024, despite knowing for years that Biden was in no shape to continue, was the final nail in the coffin. The voters heard no new wars, lower prices, and more jobs coming from Trump, which was more than you could say for the Dems. The specifics of the tariffs probably weren't even on their mind back then. What they did know was that vapid, cackling Kamala had been installed by the Dems rather than voted on by the public. That, along with being unable to differentiate herself from Biden, ultimately sank her campaign. Campaigning with and touting the endorsement of neocons was incredibly stupid as well, and even her running mate said as much. Campaign wise, they were running to the right of Trump. The Dems have been chasing the right-wing vote since 2016, and we have paid dearly for it ever since. All they care about is power, but even if they do regain control, it will likely be short lived. We're always ping ponging between Republicans and Democrats because the party in control is always full of corporate whores and war mongers. Voters invariably get tired of it and make the switch, but since both parties are corrupt and compromised, it accomplishes nothing. It's just a never-ending cycle of bullshit.
