In answer to Matthew's question, even though she may have worn some before, the "sack dresses" really become noticeable during the 1982-83 (fight for Ewing Oil) season. The season before when Jock died, she was slimmer and I believe her health and weight issues shortly after may have prompted Barbara to wear them. Alexis' link to Barbara's website shows that she looked perfectly fine in two piece dresses and business suits, and Miss Texas is right in that she looked better in dresses with cinched in waists. She should have worn more two piece dresses, in my opinion. As for Miss Ellie's wedding dress, I don't think it was hideous, granted, it's not really appropriate for a wedding dress, but it's nice enough for lunch out on the town and at least has some color to it. The problem with the sack dresses, beside their shapelessness, was that many of them had no color or had drab patterns to them. Barbara looked much better in dark, solid or bright colors. Here is one photo, where she is wearing a sack dress, but it doesn't look so bad because of the color.
