Nu Joseph (and not Joseph Nu !) is actually a big improvment over the original character.

He's more involved with everything that's going on, and he's more direct.
O.Joseph was very good at guarding the Carrington fortress, and his animosity towards the Mrs Carringtons was far more subtle but not less menacing (and the same could be said about Fallon).
But he wasn't very convincing as Kirby's father imo.

He wasn't very convincing as anything to me (majordomo, father, human being). I only like his creepy look. That said, he was so much better than Gerard and his obsequious manners. What a horrible remplacement !
