You're aware, of course, of some differences -- including of some "freezing" shots which now freeze at a different point from which they originally froze. But I guess they had to use what they had.

So pristine, though!

PS: I really like the adjusted Howard-Keel-riding-up shot!

This is a dallasfanzine production, not Warner!! I think they should have taken the time to do something like this for their remaster. Howard Keel's original Season 10 title never appeared on the show, probably a deleted scene, so we found another similar shot and reversed it.

It's fantastic! What a let-down that it's not something they used...

That's Warner. Always starting great and then either drop quality drastically or don't bother to finish at all.
You can say that for SO many of their shows treatment. CBS/Paramount does a way better job there.

If Warner really remastered all of FC and Knots as well, i'm quite sure those show's later opening credits (after they went to editing on video) will be a huge dissappointment in HD, compared to the originals. Because they just don't care.

I mean, if they were just too lazy to do it themselves, they still could use some of the already existing great looking fanmade HD opening credits for their shows and just don't reveal it, but they don't bother maintaining good quality at all.

I also really like BBG's center shot where she looks down pensively before the shot ends.

An aside: does anybody recall how very, very blue that lake water was in the early episodes of Season 8 (DVD) when they first re-did the opening theme design? But by mid-year, it was consumed by that 1985 chocolate-milk haze that seemed to impact all the shows, and the more-vivid color never made it back into the opening titles for the five years they used that design.

I'm trying to understand. were these credits originally used for season 10 during first run? Meaning, are the openings on DVD not the original intro for season 10, or at least all of it?

Yes I remember this well. For some reason the colour grading was completely altered so that the lake went from blue to yellowy brown!!

I actually seem to recall that color-regrading occurring suddenly in the middle of one episode's opening titles. Like the machine just "burped" or something. And nobody ever fixed it.

Class stuff; warts, beauty spots and all. Not a bit of cosmetic surgery or plastic surgery, to be seen.

J.R. goes to a rodeo that Jock’s impersonator Wes Parmalee is watching; (a scene from season 9; DVD-10, 1986-'87):

J.R. walks past Wes.

Wes: “Hello J.R.!”

J.R.: “Well. Hello daddy! I’m glad to see you got your memory back long enough to recognise me.”

Wes: “You’ve lost some weight since I saw ya. You’re looking good.”

J.R.: “Well I’d like to say the same about you but since I never laid eyes on you, in my life before that would be a little difficult.”

Wes: “How did you find me?”

J.R.: “They told me at your motel you hung out around here. Not something the real Jock Ewing would do!”

Wes: “I’ve changed.”

J.R.: “Yeah, more than a little.”

Wes: “Now you’re going to tell me you don’t believe I’m your daddy either.”

J.R.: “Well it would be a waste of time. I came down here to ask you a question.”

Wes: “Ask ahead, I’ve got nothing to hide.”

J.R.: “What do you want to drop this act and get the hell out of Dallas?”

Wes laughs: “I gotta say you boys are acting true to form. Bobby came by to beat the tar outta me and you want to buy me out.”

J.R.: “Now I didn’t come here to discuss my family. You’re obviously a fraud, you have no fingerprints. I wouldn’t put it past ya to have burnt them off yourself. There’s no way we can check your dental records and your memory comes and goes.”

Wes: “Don’t forget the voice boy.”

J.R.: “Yeah that’s the biggest croc of all right there. You know if you’re smart you’d take some money and get outta here.”

Wes: “Could be I’m not after money.”

J.R.: “Sure ya are. I can smell it. Now Bobby might be too nice to do ya any real harm but I wouldn’t find it any trouble at all to get a couple of good ole’ boys and have them run you out of town one night.”

Wes: “You know I’ve been gone so long both of you boys have forgot something about me.”

J.R.: “Oh!”

Wes: “Jock Ewing can’t be scared off and he can’t be bought off. Now like it or not J.R. your daddy’s back to stay.”

Wes looks sternly at J.R. and then walks off to his truck.

I remember watching, perversely, the Republican Convention held from Dallas during the summer of 1984, and seeing gorgeous sunset shots (from helicopter) of the skyline aired throughout the broadcast. And thinking it would be great if they'd update the opening DALLAS credits.

They in fact did. But unfortunately, the shots were somewhat bright yet hazy, and kind of dead-ish. An omen of what was to come, with the imminent introduction of Donna Reed and, later, Peter Dunne, later still the dream resolution, the exodus of Paulsen, and the entry of Howard Lakin.
