Im with JK Rowling on this one - wore a t shirt with the wee Nyaff on it and Destroyer of womans right
I really would like to understand why you think this. How does making it less complicated for a trans person to get a gender recognition certificate have any impact on the rights of a woman? My understanding is that the certificate allows trans people to have their acquired sex on a marriage certificate if they marry and on their death certificate when they die. How does that destroy the rights of a woman? I would be so grateful if you could explain your opinion on this.

Even if someone has to wait 3 months to be legally classified as a woman/female then the bill is still far too open to be taken advantage of.

If a self identified trans woman - dressed fully as a man, with all his bits, can walk into a single spaced area, such as a refuge WITH a copy of their signed and legal bill, then it is wrong - so wrong.

The Scottish Gender Recognition Bill has been widely misrepresented. It has absolutely nothing to do with access to single sex spaces and won't change anything in that respect. Therefore the scenario that you described just wouldn't happen.

I hear what you're saying, but it COULD be used and that's what many women are concerned about. Once you make someone legally female they will have access to areas they didn't as a man. Also, these trans women do not need to undergo any form of surgery, so they may still be fully intact as a male.

We're not going to agree on this but I don't think a theoretic possibility that something could happen which is no different to what could happen before the Gender Recognition Act was passed is a good enough reason to want to make life more difficult for trans people. However, I thank you for engaging with me.

Thank you too. I feel that this debate has become so very toxic simply because it's not debated enough and therefore becomes a battle, which in turn gets out of hand. It will be very interesting to see what happens when the Scottish bill comes to court after being blocked by the UK Government. I'm sure there will be many twists and turns ahead.

The recent murder of Brianna Ghey must have been heartbreaking for her family but the injustice of current laws just adds to their pain. Brianna will have to be referred to male on her death certificate even though she was a trans female, lived as a female and her family and friends considered her to be female. If the rest of the UK adopted the law on Gender Recognition Certificates that Scotland passed, Brianna's family could give her the dignity she would have wanted. We shouldn't believe the propaganda of the anti-trans brigade, Gender Recognition Certificates has nothing to do with access to same sex spaces because no one needs one for that. What they do is allow for basic dignity on documents like marriage or death certificates.

I've said before that woke-ism has been introduced to undermine the left, to turn it woke, turn it stupid and bring it down.

Certainly there is something contrived and even vaguely unsettling about the Transgender activism. If nothing else, it's a massive case of gaslighting: history, science and reality forced to accommodate the whims of a tiny sliver of the population suffering from self-perception issues.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
― George Orwell, 1984

Again, it's a "You're either with us or against us" - there is no middle ground here at all.

There is a cult-like extremity to the TRA movement. I guess I am an old school liberal: I don't give a f*** what consenting adults do with their lives, as long as it doesn't intrude on someone else's. To TRAs, "I think biological males shouldn't intrude on female spaces" is exactly the same as "All transpeople should be rounded up and exterminated".

I this is definitely the case for some supporters of trans rights but it's also very true for some of those who oppose any extension of rights for trans people.

Well Nicola Sturgeon (Scottish First Minister) felt the heat and has resigned. She said it wasn't due to anything recent, but I'm sure the new Gender Bill she wanted, that the UK government blocked, had an awful lot to do with it. The reaction against it was tidal.

This (OT) is why I'm not enjoying being in the maelstrom of this election between Trump and Harris (with the one of 40 years ago between Reagan and Mondale, I'm sure we could have found some).

There's no such thing as a perfect life without heartache, anxiety and sheer bad luck. We all have to go through it and hope for the best.
Perfectly said @Willie Oleson

I should have that printed on a t-shirt.
But with regards to my opinion on this thread? I confused why so many people race to label themselves. It tells me they cannot function through life without a label. My parents gave me a label...it's called a name. When I meet new people I introduce myself followed by, "Pleased to meet you." What occurs after this is whether we share common ideas and values. However, as I approach the pointy end of my life if I come across someone wishing to identify by ABCDEFGHI....etc...I'm simply going to reply with, "Your too much work."
