Should they have said why Southfork looked different between episodes 5 & 6?
If they'd tried to reproduce the bedrooms from the show inside the Duncan Acres house, they'd have to leave out John Ross' and Cristopher room entirely, and Miss Ellie's room would have to be much shallower. The middle section of the house, where most of the bedrooms are, is about 42 or 42 feet deep, while the studio bedroom sets are 65 to 70 feet. We used to laugh at the rinky dink sets for the house and the offices on DALLAS long before DYNASTY ever existed, and wondered why the DALLAS digs were so rednecky. But perhaps that was part of the appeal of the early period of the show. Not all wealthy people live like they're rich, but Miss Ellie still seemed tasteful enough to have at least decorated Southfork better than it was. What's so funny about those guest cottages from the miniseries is that, apparently, Miss Ellie was refusing to lead the gardener mow the lawn at Gary's cottage until Gary comes home.... I mean, that's probably what started the fire which burned the Box ranch a few years later!
