Sue Ellen drowned in the pool

Spooky Owl!

Telly Talk Supreme
The photo on the right looks like Cliff drowned in the pool. Except Sue Ellen would never save anybody.

There were three versions shot : with Pam, Sue-Ellen and Kristin. For some reason they used the one with Kristin for the cliffhanger (why not a anonymous actress ?) It was impossible to identify the woman when it first aired on TV, much too fast. But in 2025 if you freeze the right image (or watch the scene in very low speed) you can see Kristin. If you happen to watch the series for the first time nowadays, it's a non-cliffhanger...

(But who could believe V.P or L.G would leave such a hit after only 4 seasons ?)

Wow, never noticed that before but yes, that's clearly Kristin.

And yet there were promo stills at the time that very clearly showed Sue Ellen as the victim.

I also found Cliff’s cursing of JR to be unusually campy and sibilant.
for some reason they seemed to feel a mildly generically dramatic “oh my god!” should be the reaction to any tragic news, and a somewhat perfunctory “you bastard!” was the thing to say to someone who’d just done something unspeakably horrific.

It kind of gave the impression of “mailing it in” sometimes.

It's obvious that "you bastard!" was added in post-production as it sounded differently than "she's dead." Probably because "she's dead" does not equal "you killed her" contrary to "you bastard!"
