I have a full head of completely dark hair with almost no grey at all. My beard has some grey in it, but I prefer to keep clean-shaven -- beards just make you look older anyway, although these days mine is covered in a mask, so who cares...?

How about that's not wrong anymore? I'm about to show some dirty laundry :embarrassed::

Four years ago I was diagnosed with advance periodontal disease. I was given a nasty tasting solution to gargle with and advised to see a periodontist for a course of treatment. A very expensive and time consuming course of treatment. Something else the dentist advised was to get a Waterpik. I didn't follow up with the periodontist. I was swamped at work and decided I would "think about it tomorrow". I did order a Waterpik from Amazon and I used it - faithfully.

I broke a tooth. I broke one four years ago which is when I was diagnosed with advanced periodontal disease. The dentist told me the first broken tooth had weakened due to a silver filling expanding over time which caused the tooth to fracture; there was a chance it could happen again to one of my other teeth that had silver fillings. It did. After getting another crown I was told the hygienist was available if I wanted to have my teeth cleaned. This was the same hygienist from four years ago. She mentioned the previous diagnosis and I sheepishly admitted that I didn't follow up with a periodontist. She then measured the pockets between my gums and my teeth, then she asked me if I was certain I hadn't seen a periodontist, I told her I hadn't. She told me she was surprised because my gums are totally healthy; she said she hadn't seen anything like this in 30 years of work. I told her the only thing I had done differently was using the Waterpik. She told me to keep it up because it obviously worked.

My unsolicited advice is to floss regularly or get a Waterpik (I prefer it to string floss which is why I do it much more often). I also suggest seeing your dentist more often than I do.

Well I certainly would not use it there now.....

I had a check-up and my doctor actually prescribed Vitamin D for me to take--some kind of revved-up version I only have to take once a week. I'm stunned; I mean, I live in Florida, the Sunshine State, and she's pushing me to take Vitamin D? Like coals to Newcastle....

Take it with magnesium and vitamin C.... You can actually take as much as 40,000 IUs daily without problems (I know that sounds like a lot because international units are so miniscule, but that only equates to 1 milligram!)

I love this thread because it’s really so open and honest. @Richard Channing you will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight. I’ve known quite a few people that have had shingles and I can understand the pain you must be in.

And if it’s not asking too much. perhaps keep myself in your thoughts as well. DFF is dealing with his own personal medical situation right now. I’m really not ready to talk about it yet, as I need a little time perhaps. I just realized that what I just said kind of goes against the whole point of the thread, doesn’t it? Anyway, I’ve been informed by a wonderful doctor it could all be nothing, or it could be something more. But together we’re gonna find out cause we both agree there’s something going on that doesn’t make sense. Honestly, I’m a little scared. Okay, maybe I’m a lot scared.

I said to myself I wasn’t going to make this a long post but obviously that’s gone out the window. I was gonna wrap this up by saying hug the ones closest to you and be thankful for what you have but I learned a valuable lesson lately. Hug everyone. Hug the people you love and hug the ones you can’t stand also, cause that’s what I did today at work. I hugged someone I’m really not too fond of and I told her why I was doing it. And I didn’t get what I expected. I expected a weird look, or perhaps a shove away, but it was quite the opposite. The petty stuff we argue over, things we say we can’t stand about each other, none of that mattered when I told her the truth about what I’m going through. It’s amazing what facing reality can do to our thoughts, our feelings, and our opinions, isn’t it?

I'm sorry to hear this DFF. Most of the time these things do end up being nothing so I really hope that's the case for you this time. But the wait is nerve-racking, I've been there. Sending you good vibes and keeping everything crossed for you.
