I've been wanting this to happen for some time. Becky Herbst is an "unsung hero" on GH, and yet they seem bound and determined not to give her the chance to shine. Even when they write a story that, on paper seems to be for Liz, it becomes a story for everyone else and she barely participates. No one has confirmed or denied it, but several people have claimed that Liz was sent to Shadybrook while BH renegotiates her contract. It would make some sense; they've done similar things in the past with other actors when their contract negotiations became problematic. But that was MONTHS ago, and no progress seems to be happening. As for her parents, they have been hinting at that story point since before Franco died and no casting rumors have leaked. The longer things remain stalled, the more I fear they're preparing a story for Liz that might involve Jeff and Carolyn only in helping escort her off the show. Other than Finn, no one seems to be worried for Liz, talking about her issues and speculating on why she's in such a state---and they only write Finn's concern because it's the only thing he has to do, story-wise. They blithely write off her kids by saying "Cameron is taking care of them," but what sort of support system/family allows such a thing to happen? He's a college student working at Kelly's, but he's also raising his two brothers by himself? I know they had to write around GF's vacation but Laura could have taken Aiden and Jake with her to Europe in order to take some of the burden off poor Cameron. This sort of neglect for a fan-favorite veteran actress is unfortunately something we've seen so often in the past, even on this very show. I wasn't watching the show at the time, but I recall the fan furor over how Genie Francis was treated as a set decoration for years. It's only in the past five or so years that the producers have realized what she can bring to the show, and (arguably) are using her quite well. I can't help but picture Liz as the show's younger version of Laura Collins, what with her linkages to all the original core families and history with the show's cast. You are right---when soap producers try to tell the viewers what to think about a new character, they typically react against it, even referring to it as "pimping" the new character. If the character and the actor mesh well, they typically don't have to say anything or play it up--they just let the material speak for itself. Cody is written like an unkept, unmotivated frat boy-type---when he's supposed to be (probably) 35-40 years old. He's like that guy who hangs around partying with college kids despite being way too old for that demographic. Such an attitude worked for Morgan Corinthos because Morgan was 20-ish and had been coddled all his life. This behavior from a man Cody's age is not a good look. And while I feel like a jerk for bringing it up, Cody could use a good "cleaning up" if he's going to be marketed as the "sexy new stud in town" and onscreen with the likes of Kelly Thiebaud. He doesn't have to be Ryan Paevey (I mean, there can be only one...) but he could at least get a haircut and some sun.
