Why didn’t WilliamSmithers get an ‘also starring’ credit

It's contract based. He probably just never demanded it.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but wasn't William Smithers Also Starring in season 12? I've always wondered why he became Also Starring if his return was only short-term or wasn't it meant to be short-term at all and William Smithers suddenly had to leave so George Kennedy would have something to do?

Snarky Oracle!

Smithers sued over billing for THE SURVIVORS in the '70s, and was blacklisted for his efforts. So his agent probably didn't press the point, and Smithers was probably just glad to be working.

Besides, as a semi-regular (instead of a regular-regular) a guest star credit in the closing titles was likely deemed appropriate.

Agree, but I thought it was for his role in "Executive Suite" (aka the WestStar origin story), he wanted to appear in the Opening since Day 1 and he wasn´t (or something like that). All details here!
