Terrible word. Hate saying it and hate what it means even more. So sad that this happens to people.

I've come to dread hearing the word "electric" in TV adverts.

More specifically, it's the word "eletric" I can't stand... because the voice actors are invariably too lazy (or too illiterate) to pronounce that first "c".

And nowadays, in TV interviews, someone will respond to a point blank question with, "Sooo........." as if they were in mid-statement.

Ooh yes. I mentioned this as one of my bugbears a while ago in another Rant thread:

my other current gripe: the trend of beginning sentences with "so"...

I'm all for occasionally beginning sentences occasionally with "and", "but" or even "So" for informality. But doing it repeatedly and relentlessly irritates me no end. Listening to a series of sentences beginning with "so" makes one feel they've missed something. As though the speaker is summing up something they've already said or are halfway through a sentence and the listener has missed the beginning.

The word “mediocre” when being used to describe something. I feel it gets used a little too much now. I prefer using “fair” instead.

I walked into this queer party feeling very demure in my soft, pastel outfit, but I knew my brat side would shine soon enough. My friends always say I rack up aura points for being bold yet approachable, so I planned to slay tonight.

As I chatted with a group, someone complimented my rizz and asked how I managed to be so charming. “No cap,” I said, “it just comes naturally.”

Later, I told a joke that absolutely ate, leaving everyone laughing, and someone shouted, “Bet, you’re the life of the party!”

Still, I couldn’t help but feel like I was low-key vibing when the music switched to my favorite playlist. One of the boys called my outfit drippy, which made me blush a little. But when some guy said I was giving main character energy, I knew the night was a win.

Of course, there was that one person who wouldn’t stop yapping about their latest vacation, which gave me the biggest ick. I quietly slipped away, knowing I’d already made my mark.

This could be a Scissor Sisters song.

I was today years old when I discovered how cheugy I am. Hopefully, I'll have a glow-up someday so I can be the life of the party too! I just know 2025 is going to be lit!

two for me:
  1. "literally" (As in "I was literally mad at her for being late." You mean, "I was mad at her for being late." No literally required.
  2. "irregardless"

'Deal', as applied to peace agreements.
The word 'deal' means a business deal to me. There's something about using it the context of a war that strikes me as crass.

Words such as "mansplain" and "misogyny" have always annoyed me, especially since the opposite gender version of these words are practically never used.

The implication that only men are condescending and sexist is as false as the notion that only white people are capable of prejudice.

My post disappeared? Or was it too controversial?
Or is it part of a scheme to stop me from reaching the magic 20K post count?

'Encourage' when they mean 'persuade.'
I often hear that people are being encouraged to take some form of action. To me, it suggests that it is thought that they are frightened to comply (lacking courage) rather than being opposed to it or simply not caring.
