I was just going to say “Horatio Alger and Ghandi” thinking the former is like the embodiment of the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” American Dream, but then decided to look it up and he’s a writer and his characters generally made it to “comfortable middle class” (the American version of middle class, meaning basically ‘homeowner who’s not living paycheck to paycheck’ and not like a British “haven’t been knighted yet and didn’t grow up in a castle” version). So I tried to shoehorn Rockefeller in there for ‘massive oil wealth’.DALLAS was always ambitious.
(It’s this sort of timeless, boundless, extra-manly ambition that sets DALLAS, which is really a gritty Western they’d never show at the Gardens restaurant, apart from the other supersoaps like DYNASTY and that one with Valene and the guy from Kojak and the other ones with wineries and/or aliens.)
