Coronation Street Alec and Bet - Did it work?

I've just watched this scene, it portrayed Alec in a bad light "so it did", it was only because he had the other staff and customers around him. Alec was basically a glorified barman who only married Bet and I wonder how Julie Goodyear and Roy Barraclough both felt about this scene/situation.

Gosh they all look so young and Liz's face is so different from the last time i saw her - looked frozen anf botoxed to the hilt

I loved Roy Barraclough in Corrie and his partnership with Bet, also nice seeing the late and much missed Jack and Vera. Alec was a chancer of a barman but played so weel by Roy who had great comedy timing yet could also do the drama

Then the show had characters i could like and warm to and 80/90s corrie gave you that along with humour, and pathos- I miss that and tuned out but will always enjoy watching an old Corrie clip

Well even so, I felt Coronation street got too comedylike during the mid 1990s onwards, the above clip was from 1992, it was the remaining decade in terms of bits of the old Coronation street from the first 25-30 years where EastEnders was only just beginning. If you check my other threads, I think Coronation street has headed in the wrong direction during the last 25-30 years by being too comedylike, whereby I named my favourite/best 1990s Coronation street moments.
