This time we're going to focus on Soapland confessions. Those scenes where characters either confess to a crime or something else naughty they've been up to. Or even something they haven't been up to! False confessions are also permissible. But it does need to be confessing to an action, not confessing thoughts or feelings. It could be to a family member, a spouse, a police officer or a judge. What are your top 5?

1- Katherine confesses her love to Bobby using the "Jenna Wade picnic set" (Dallas Season 6)
2- Katherine confesses to Bobby that J.R. blackmailed her to get into bed with him (again) (Dallas S.6)
3- Bobby makes to Pam a false confession for divorcing her after being deceived by Katherine (Dallas S.6)
4- Katherine accepts Pam’s accusation of causing their divorce before being beech-slapped by Pam (D.S.6)
5- Clayton (haha, I got you! You thought I'd mention Kathy again?) confesses the Greek tragedy that was "living with Jessica" at Southern Cross, much to the astonishment of the Krebbses...

I always thought Morgan Brittany was an
incredibly beautiful woman. However, in 2:06 of the above posted video they have her dressed as if she was guest starring on Little House on the Prairie. Was that actually a style for a brief moment in the 80's, or were the writers trying to make some statement about Katherine's psyche? She also used to rock these 1940's hairdos. She looke stunning, but still it seemed odd.

1. Abby tells "her version" (not necessarily the truth) of her involvement in the kidnapping of the babies, KL. Abby was in her raccoon-eyed/gold lame dress/frizzy-haired prime at this party where she decided to 'confess' after one too many people tried to blackmail her with the real story. Her version earned the scorn of all assembled at the party, but at least she didn't end up in jail, and it allowed her to turn the tables on all her would-be blackmailers.

2. Abby fake-confesses to killing Peter, KL. Just as it looks like the cops are forming a case against Olivia, Abby jumps on the sword to spare her daughter. Of course Abby thinks Olivia did it, but she didn't. Abby's confession is selfless but pointless.

3. Anne confesses to Karen (via phone) that she faked the suicide attempt, KL. Anne tells Karen that she did it to "bring Mack to his senses," to get him to give up this boring suburban life he had with Karen. Unfortunately, Mack overheard the whole thing and Anne is humiliated enough to leave town.

4. Julie confesses her role in Danny's death, KL. She didn't directly kill him, but she sure didn't render aid in his moment of need. But so what? The guy deserved a much worse fate for what he did to Pat, in my opinion. But Kent Masters-King did a great job with her material.

5. Robert confesses to Greg that he (Robert) intentionally shot and killed Mary Frances, KL. Greg (hooked up to a dozen machines in the hospital) is in no place to say or do anything as Robert hovers over him, intending to kill Greg, as well.

Honorable mention: I'm not sure if she was confessing to something she did when Laura confessed to Mack that Apolune was Abby's company, but it's a major (and pivotal) scene. Mack already knew Laura worked for Apolune when he confronted her, so she wasn't technically confessing to her role in what was going on. If it can get in on a technicality, I'd place this one at #1 and move the others down a notch (dismissing Robert/Greg).

Not every outfit and hairdo was a winner, not even on Dynasty and The Colbys.

My top five confessions:
1. JR confesses to Jock he always secretly wanted to be a tap dancer like his idol Bill Bojangles Robinson. Just want to see if you're paying attention
Here they are:

1.Katherine confesses to Pam that she's in love with Bobby. Katherine is so calm in this scene. At first she tries dissembling.about the letter, but when that doesn't work she full on comes clean. Katherine is as cool as a cucumber. That is, until Pam slaps the cool right off of her face. Then Katherine is left with a look of shock on her face that seems to say, "I can't believe she slapped me! Just because I broke up her marriage!?!" Don't worry, Katherine. Some people overreact to everything. Dallas

2. Abby confesses to Ted that SHE is Murakame. This is Abby's devil-may-care period. In the past she has been all steely ruthless, but now that she is mega rich she seems to take everything as a game. The way she builds up Ted when promising to reveal the truth and then calmly bows conveys how much fun she is having with everything. Of course, we are as well. Who knew defrauding your beloved brother's widow and your ex-husband could be such a laugh riot? Oh, Abby, you little rascal! Knots Landing

3. Donna confesses to her husband about her affair with Ray. What I love about this is that she pulled the rug out from under JR when he tried to blackmail her. Instead of kowtowing to him as most everyone else has done, she took the bull by the horns and owned the situation. She broke up with Ray(temporarily) and confessed to her husband Sam. Nobody may ever beat ol' JR, but he never met this steel magnolia before. Dallas.

4. Paige confesses to killing Peter. This is great for two reasons. One is that Abby tricked Paige into confessing when she realized Paige was probably the culprit. I don't know which is the more seductive trait Abby has, those blue eyes or her intelligence. The second reason is that when Paige confesses to Mack and is a bit too cavalier, Mack scolds her with, "What do you think this is? A parking ticket?" She then bursts into tears and falls into her daddy's arms. Nicolette Sheridan is so good, imho, because you don't know if the tears are sincere, a ploy to garner sympathy from Mack or a little bit if both. Another early hint of how NS the actor was more than just a blonde vixen and would often more than hold her own amongst the esteemed cast of my favorite soap. Knots Landing.

5. Anne confesses to Greg she is not pregnant. I've always thought Anne as played by Mama Michelle Phillips was one of the most fun characters of all the nighttime soaps. The thing that made her even more than just comic relief is that she would often reveal some layers beneath the outer materialistic WASP of dubious morality. This scene was, imho, an example of that. Anne you might steal money from a Salvation Army kettle, not to mention your daughter's inheritence, but I wish you were MY Sunday school teacher. Knots Landing

1. "I killed Ciji"



There are many layers to this admission of guilt, part believing she may have actually killed Ciji and part trying to protect Gary, thinking he was trying to protect her. Of course we the audience, and even the cops, don't think she did it, but it's a wonderfully dramatic moment as Knot's season 4 nears it's finale.


2. Adam confesses to poisoning Jeff



I love this scene as Adam and Alexis' machiavellian shennanigans reach a climax, as he proudly confesses to being behind Jeff's decent into madness. And surprised and a little hurt that Alexis is not on board with his scheme, he then threatens to tell everyone, including the police, that it was her idea. Adam's apple doesn't fall far from the tree.


3. Ray takes the rap

This may have been Ray's best storyline and it's very exciting because he does appear to be guilty and ready to accept his fate. Could this be the end of the line for him? It's only as the result of another dramatic confession (that could easily have replaced this one on my list) that the truth comes out and Ray walks away with a suspended sentence.


4. Emma comes clean about Jason's death

After being locked in her room at Falcon Crest for some time Emma escapes and shows up at the inquest into Jason's death to set the record straight. It's a pivotal moment in Falcon Crest's history because as a result of her confession, accidentally pushing Jason to his death, Falcon Crest gets split 50/50 between Chase and Angela, seeting the stage for many more seasons of conflict.


5. I'm not your daddy and I killed your daddy

Old Digger sure went out with a bang. Not only does he reveal to Pam that he is not her biological father, he also admits to murdering her real father, thus exonerating Jock who had been accused of the murder. Two bombshells and then he kicks the bucket. Poor Pam is left with a lot to take in.

1. Abby's semi-confession regarding her knowledge of the twinnapping - KNOTS LANDING
I was completely flabbergasted after watching that scene. How did she manage to pull that off? It just couldn't have worked, and yet it did.

2. Sue Ellen confesses that she had started the fire because she had combined excessive alcohol consumption with burning wedding invitations - DALLAS
A turning point, almost a conclusion to Sue Ellen Ewing's decades-long alcohol addiction (even if it was based on a misinterpretation of the event).

3. Kate Torrance confesses to the kidnapping of Adam Carrington - DYNASTY

"I sinned...when I stole you from that baby carriage".
A confession with the "I sinned" in it, I think that was the main reason to include it.

4. Fallon tells Jeff exactly why she married him - DYNASTY

"I married you because your uncle promised to bail out my father if I did"
She immediately withdraws her statement, but the birthday party is going to be a disaster anyway.

5. Anne confesses to Karen (via phone) that she faked the suicide attempt - KNOTS LANDING
And how this is going to backfire! Love it.

Memorably, Abby is sharing the news with Westmont and wails "Oh, it's just so VAL!"

My list

1. Digger confessed he is not Pam’s biological Father than says he killed her biological Father.

2. Kristen finally confessed to being the one who shot J.R., and how she was setting her Sister up

3. Kristen confessed to J.R. she is pregnant so she wouldn’t get charged, and she left Dallas.

4. Sue Ellen confessed to Bobby at the Sanitarium that she slept with Cliff, and he could be the Father of her child.

5. Jenna confessed to Bobby who Charle’s Father is.

I feel this is basically a confession but if you don’t agree you can disregard it.

6. Sue Ellen while celebrating alone with JR about them finally conceiving a child . J.R. is asking questions seems he is confused about the pregnancy. She tells him she has been as faithful as he has been in their marriage. J.R. slaps her he knows she has been with someone else.

7. Abby confessed to being part of the twins kidnapping.

8. Dynasty-Adam confessed to Alexis and Blake he was actually Michael Torrence and Neil McVane presented him with proof.

 

[Jock Og]

1) Abby gets the babies kidnapping off her chest: After being almost forced to do it Abby tells all and sundry, at a party, about her part in the snatching of the babies. - KNOTS LANDING.

2) Digger's deathbed reveal: He loved her like she was his own but Hutch McKinney was Pam's father and Digger killed him, when he found him with Rebecca. - DALLAS.

3) It was Adam who done the paint job: Adam, the bad egg of the Carrington family tells Alexis he was the one who used tainted paint, to poison his rival Jeff. The twist is that he is going to set Alexis up, for the rap. - DYNASTY.

4) Julia blurts out to Fr. Bob: The parish priest of the Valley / confidant to Angela hears that Julia bumped off two people and threatens to kill again. She wants absolution but will Fr. Bob provide it. - FALCON CREST.

5) Ellie is told by Jock that he was married before: Unknown to Jock his wife has cancer. Before Ellie lets Jock know that she is going under the knife, her husband reveals a secret that he was married before. The woman's name is Amanda. - DALLAS.

Yes, this was such a great season. When the main characters comment on each other to minor characters orvehen outsiders like Janet Baines make observations about them, it's so fascinating.

Excellent call, Willie! I totally forgot about this scene. She's at the Lotus Point party and Greg, Olivia, and Peter are holding her involvement over her head? She finally snaps and confesses (almost) everything? Abby is awesome because she came put looking like a hero. I found myself almost rooting for her when she's on the ropes because of her schemes, that's how beguiling the suburban Siren can be.

The episode title, "Phoenix Rises," is perfect as well, since Abby is renewed and re-energized once she shakes off all these people trying to hold the secret over her.
