Emmerdale Episode Discussion

One thing that's throwing me is the cafe where Jamie is working? Who owns that and is this different to David's shop that turned into a cafe as well as the cafe Bob works in?

It's located at the outdoor pursuits centre that Kim Tate opened with the Sharmas, it's built on the site of the Sharma's old factory which Kerry and Amy inadvertently burnt down causing the death of Vanessa and Tracy's father.

Diane is also poorly underused. She’s hardly ever in it now.

Agreed, Diane is basically this century’s Annie Sugden, Emmerdale hasn’t been good at focusing on its longer standing characters lately, it’s either the newcomers or the Dingles and quite frankly I’m not impressed with most of the new characters; people like Dawn, Will, Nate, etc I’d get rid off

Are they not using people like Diane and Eric much right now because of their age and the virus?

Dawn, Will,

I wouldn't mind these two being gone. I'm not interested in either and haven't been paying much attention to their recent storyline. Nate, I don't mind as much, but that's probably because he's easy on the eyes. He hasn't had much to do since I started watching the show again and I wouldn't really miss him.

The actress who plays Dawn is really good, I could see her having a great career outside of Emmerdale. Unfortunately she's been saddled with really poor writing, the whole Malone story was so unnecessary and horrible. I'll never understand why the ITV soaps have gone in this direction.

Well, it's certainly been a good excuse for Emmerdale to not have to write for their older characters.

Diane did have some really nice scenes with Charity a few weeks ago. Her not being used is hard to fathom as she's connected to so many characters.

I get that in Covid times and Elizabeth Estensen’s age is a factor as to why she maybe off screen for the time being.

But even before this she was under used I feel, Diane is the matriarch of two relatively large and long standing families; the Sugden’s and the Blackstock/Lambert family, she’s also close to Laurel and her family as well seeing as her ex son in law; Ashley was married to her, this puts her as quite an important character in my book.

Emmerdale is in need of a clear out in my opinion, sadly we can’t have another plane crash, two air disasters in 20 years is a bit much and a third would be ridiculous sadly :-D

The producers need to remember The Sugdens are the first family of Emmerdale and not the Dingles.

Im honestly fed up with the Dingles, I think they could easily be written out, I can’t see Zak being in it much longer, Cain and Charity are on constant repeating cycles, Chas & Paddy are boring, Debbie too repetitive, Aaron too depressing and repetitive.

I was hoping after Annie died that we would see more Sugden relatives come out the woodwork, they’re the first family, then the Tates, then the Windsor-Hopes and then it’s the Dingles in fourth place

I don't know why they would let an original family become just a distant memory like they are with the Sudgens and the fixation every producer has with the Dingles. Back when Kate Oates joined Corrie, she brought back, Peter Barlow, Adam Barlow and introduced a new Daniel Osbourne, giving the Barlows the centre stage again and it's been great having them all back. It can be done.

The history is there, they just need to use it.

Exactly, it’s not as if the Sugden’s aren’t there, we still have Victoria, Harry, Sarah Jnr and Jack Jnr, okay the latter two are more involved with the Dingle clan but surely they’d want to be closer to their aunt as well?

Even if we can’t get Robert and Andy back, we can still bring back Sam Skilbeck & Louise Merrick, my idea for them is that they’re married (I like the idea of Sandie remaining friends with Her former step-uncle and aunt; Matt & Dolly) and they have four children; two sons and two daughters.

You could even bring Daz back, he’s been gone for some years now, and had unfinished business with Victoria, plus as it’s been so many years since we last saw Daz he could be recast with a new actor, in the mid 2000s they did try to make Robert, Andy, Victoria and Daz into the new Jack, Joe, Peggy and Matt, with Katie as a Dolly/Kathy/Rachel combination

There are no Sugdens to bring back though, there was never that many of them to begin with. For the most part of their time it was just Annie, Joe and/or Jack. Robert and Andy are the only Sugdens out there and I'm sure they'd have both actors back if either wanted to return. I can't see them recasting Andy after being played by one actor for 20 years or Robert again given Ryan Hawley's popularity. Bringing in never before mentioned members when there are no original Sugdens left for them to interact with seems pointless.

Kate Oates had the same idea when she brought back Robert (giving him a new head and sexuality) and brought up all the all history between him and Andy. She had more Barlows to play with though and was lucky enough to still have the original Barlow to anchor it all.

Well, part of me was thinking of creating new relations, as they do with the Dingles over and over.

Then on top of that, maybe bring the Windsor children back, they could recast Scott, and tempt Adele Silva to come back with a juicy story and salary.

Yeah, that's a good point.

They add a new branch to the Dingle family three every six months with an illegitimate child.

Based on the fact that Jack was away in Italy for much of the mid to late 1970s and Joe was splitting his time between Yorkshire and France for several years in the early to mid 1980s, it’s not beyond the realm of possibilities that they had a dalliance or two, which resulted in a pregnancy they never knew about, in their day, Jack and Joe were womanisers, Joe maintained a Batchelor lifestyle from the time Christine left him in 1974 right up until he met Kate Hughes in 1988, plenty scope for an illegitimate Sugden to pop up.

Even Robert could have an illegitimate teenage offspring out there somewhere.

Also there are the Merrick and Skilbeck families who are related to the Sugden’s, there’s still plenty of them.

Yeah, that's a good point.

I’d definitely bring Kelly and Scott back, Scott would be recast but Kelly has to be played by Adele Silva.

Following the demise of the gentleman thief Frank. Tracy, or more accurately Amy Walsh, really entered a purple patch and continued.

Pairing up with Nate has made for some excellent viewing. Tracy's really stealing my attention and long may that continue.

Talented siblings the Walsh sisters.

To be honest, I have very little interest in the Sugdens. I kinda like Victoria and Robert, but Diane annoys me.

Dingles are ok, but I don't want them taking over. Sam & Lydia are cute and has somehow taken over as the ethics guide of the show. Cain & Moira are the supercouple of the show. Chas & Paddy are the welcome committé of the show. Marlon the sweet loser. Charity the complete mess. Faith the immature comic figure. Debbie downer just needs to be happy for a change.

I want more added to the King family and the Barton family! Plus, I want Joe Tate back for Debbie!

I also want more of Eric, David, Leyla & Jacob. And I want them to somewhat redeem Jamie and repair his marriage with Andrea. A fight between Jamie/Andrea *vs* pregnant Gabby/Kim could be fun. And add Laurel in the middle since Bernice won't be coming back.

I wouldn't mind a Nate/Tracy/Billy triangle. And Vanessa needs to be back.

Emmerdale deserves praise with Pollard and David regarding the Covid Jab's.
