Okay, I wasn't watching (haven't been in eons) so I have to ask--why is Victor tolerating Ashland?
Basically he tolerated him for Victoria’s sake and because it made life worse for Billy Boy Abbott.

While I'm not a huge Mariah & Tessa fan, the proposal was sweet. Nevertheless, I still don't know what NuNoah is supposed to do in Genoa City. Why recast a character, when there is no (obvious) masterplan?

I really liked the proposal as well. I thought it was well done. Noah was actually supposed to be in charge of buying the toilet paper that was being used as baby Dominick. But once that role was filled by a real baby (and a really cute one I might add), then the plans for Noah were obviously changed. So I guess it’s back to the drawing board for the character.

They've never really known what to do with adult Noah, just as they never seemed able to do justice to Fen and Scotty, Lauren's sons. I tend to think they've just not been lucky with their casting choices. Charismatic actors tend to "inspire" the writers to come up with better material; even if the actor isn't all that good, the writers can often write to the strengths and make them a hit. Kyle Abbott was a character with a string of questionable recasts, but once they found the right actor (that last one, Michael something) the character finally found its footing. Maybe it's just something as simple as finding the right actor for Noah (and Fen and Scotty) and letting his personality shine through to finally give Noah an identity.

Is there a single viewer out there thinking, "Jack, please stop Phyllis! She can't move to Milan!” This story is so old-fashioned (or classic?) that I wonder why it's still being told today. Maybe it's about making the viewer feel smart because everyone knows what's going to happen...

Now I understand why Ashland needs a recast instead of just killing him off-screen. Thanks to Victor and Michael, the Ashland story is finally interesting and after a long time I'm excited to see how a storyline develops on Y&R. I'm sure Victor will not disappoint me.

I just think Ashland faking his illness is way too predictable. I think we’ve all seen this one coming for months. I am interested to see what Robert Newman will do with the role though.

As is usually the case with high-profile recasts, the writers will likely "take the character in another direction," to use their oft-used term. Whether they actually *need* to is a whole other question. I can imagine they won't be able to resist doing some work under the hood since Robert Newman's turn as GL's Josh Lewis is mostly remembered as a heroic character, not the secretive mystery man they imagine Ashland to be.

And while I know Ashland is "promised" to Victoria right now, I keep imagining what fun Robert Newman and Eileen Davidson would be onscreen.

Yes, I think the character is going to have to shift a little. Robert Newman playing Ashland in his current form is a little hard for me to see.

I can see them having some good scenes together but personally I’m looking forward to any possible scenes with Tracy Abbott. For some reason I can see them having some good chemistry.

I am excited about Robert Newman joining the show as Ashland Locke next week and seeing him with Amelia Heinle as Victoria since I loved him on Guiding Light as Joshua Lewis even though I am not a fan of some the current storylines. :):(

It will be nice having him back in the CBS fold. I’ve always been a fan of his. Hopefully the writers can give him some good material to work with.

Any thoughts on NuAshland yet? A bit boring, right? Only now do I realize how good Richard Burgi was as Ashland.
I’m actually enjoying his scenes so far but I guess I’m a little biased when it comes to Robert Newman. I’m watching him on daytime most of my life so I’m probably not the one to ask. I was watching those scenes last night hoping Kim Zimmer would show up so obviously I have issues too.

I wonder if men's self-pity is there to make female viewers feel better and think: "My husband might be this and that, but at least he isn't as whiny as Billy or Jack or Nick or Adam or Noah or every man on the show except Victor."

The only good thing about the latest episode was Chelsea's realization that she fancies Rey, but there should be more interesting stuff in 36 minutes than just a few seconds.

I think a Chelsea and Rey pairing would be good, especially if it frees up Sharon for Nick. I think it’s about time they put these two back together.

Not sure where this Billy insomnia story is headed. It does seem to be putting me to sleep though, pardon the pun.

I really don't feel Sharon and Nick should be together. They aren't a fun couple, IMO. I'd rather they try something new with these characters. New matches.

Too bad Mark Grossman and Sharon Case are a couple, cause I think that's why they hesitate with Sharon & Adam.

Weird writers don't want them as a couple. Just as weird that the other real-life couple Bryton James and Brytni Sarpy got separated on the show. I'm not thrilled that Devon is dating Hillary's twin sister. I liked Amanda regardless of Devon much more.

Not many shows want to pair real-life couples on their shows. I guess they fear what will happen to a story if the couple breaks up in the middle of things and can't stand working together anymore. Or the actors involved don't feel like mixing work with personal life.

I know the actors playing Cain and Rhona on Emmerdale who are married IRL don't want their characters to ever get together. They are hardly ever in the same scenes.
