Telly Talk Star
Lucy sits with Mitch in the living room at South Fork. "Well when I am in Dallas, which seems to be more often than not, I'm in the living room, so I guess it's my room. My paintings, my pictures. But the family always gathers in her before dinner. Pamela and John Ross really use the family room in the back, and John Ross has the study off that, so really we all seem to get along pretty nicely, believe it or not."
"Considering your family it is hard to believe. And you all sleep up stairs?"
"Well Beau just moved in, after his wife died. But he's in Austin more these days then here."
"And you look after Jordan?"
"Pretty much. John Ross and Pamela hired an au pair but it's mostly me and John Ross. The kids and the au pair and a play room are all in the attic. That was my idea. Then John Ross and Pamela are in grandma's old room. I'm still in my dad's old room. Beau moved into Bobby's room. Pamela plans on making one of the two guest rooms into little Sue Ellen's room when she's older. And Ellis and Barbara are out back. And Chris with Emily and Jeremy are in the cottage, also out back. There's the bunk house of course for the guys that run the ranch and Mateo Ramos, the Forman, he lives in the old Henderson place now. I think that's about it."
"Wow. Pretty full up around here than."
"It is, isn't it. But it's nice. The six of us have diner together most evenings. I don't know what we'll do when the six kids join is. John Ross was talking about adding onto the dinning room."
"Still sounds crowded to me."
"He's got a rec House out back with a gym on the ground floor and a big rec room up stairs. And Emily has another building that's like a library. So we're kinda spawned out."
"But you get along?"
"For the most part. There's no fighting over the business. Chris has a share, John Ross has a share and I split mine with my brother and sister. Beau's in politics so his money's in a blind trust. Liam oversees it."
"And who's Liam?"
"He's kind of John Ross's go to finance guy."
"And no one cares that Chris runs the businesses?"
"Nope. Not yet anyway."
"Pamela runs a company called Lone Star. They own hundreds of investments, including John Ross's share of Ewing Oil, shares of Trident and stuff like that."
"Trident is pretty big."
"Topped four hundred billion in market capitalization. That's really where the fighting is, to control Trident."
"I see. And you and Emily run the Ewing Family Foundation."
"Really she does. I'm just kinda hanging around."
"I see. And I'm suppose to believe for the most part you all get along."
Lucy laughs, "For the most part yes."
Mitch looks around the room: the large portrait of Enoch Southworth with a two small portraits, one on top of each other next to it of Francis and Aaron, oil paintings by Eastman Johnson; across the room a Howard Chandler Christy chalk of a young miss Ellie; in the corner a Andy Warhol of a young Lucy; a Pissarro above the fireplace; a Manet; a Cézanne. "An impressive room. But I guess I'd expect no less. I bet you could spend hours telling me about everything in this room." He points out a sculpture.
Lucy says, "Well I was in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina and I found this artist, Thomas Randolph Morrison. Look at her expression. My heart aches looking at her. I know her. I mean I feel I know her."
Mitch laughs, "And I suppose that's a real Tiffany lamp over there."
"Of course. Why wouldn't it be?"
"You've always impressed me Lucy. No matter what's gone on in your life, you just appreciate beauty and history." Looking around the room at all the silver framed family pictures. "This room just shouts Lucy Ewing."
"Well I'd like to think it's still my grandmother's."
"Oh it is. That part of her that's you."
"Yes Pamela totally changed the family room." Lucy looks almost embarrassed as she says, "I call it modern Barnes. At one time she was talking about removing the wall with the kitchen, somehow trying to open it up."
(note: as a writer the one area I understand ignoring is the change from the pilot mansion, to the mansion we know as South Fork to the TNT version and in my fan fiction back again; no way to explain it, just laugh it off but put it back!).
Mitch says, "I take it modern Barnes is an insult."
"A tiny one. Don't get me wrong, I love Pamela, and she's certainly the best thing that ever happened to John Ross, but I'm very glad she doesn't interfere with the front of the house."
"What about the kitchen?"
"I don't know. I haven't been in there in sometime."
Mitch laughs. "Isn't there a traditional wife like your grandma among you all?"
Lucy laughs with him, "Barbara."
Mateo and Rebecca share a picnic by a creek on South Fork. Rebecca looks over a sketch book and says, "They're beautiful."
"I see you living in a cottage just like that. In a wooded corner of South Fork."
"It looks beautiful, but terribly boring."
"Peaceful."
"You like peaceful, don't you Mateo?" She caresses his cheek.
"When you've seen as much was as I have you appreciate peace."
"Tell me what you've seen."
"I don't really wanta go over this nightmares." Tears well up in his eyes.
She hugs him, "No of course not. I'm so sorry." She holds him petting his hair. "Don't even think about it. Just peaceful. This spot her by the creek. This'll be out spot. Mon âme, mon cœur, mon ange. C'est notre place dans le monde. Ici, sous ce noyer."
An comes out of the shower in a towel. "A great stirring at that company than?"
Liam sets up in bed, "My father seems to think it's some sort of game. He takes control of Trident's board and that allows him to go after Ewing Oil. It's gone big battle where he sees himself as the giant conquering hero, but the truth is he's over his head."
"What do you mean?" An leans down over Liam and rubs up his leg to his crotch on the outside of the sheet covering Liam.
Liam moans and smiles at his lover. "Now that the Rosnova Group is involved things just got more serious. Can you hack into their computers?"
"The Rosnova Group? Sure. Have several times. Very advanced stuff but I know the girl who set it up. We worked together long time ago. What I want to do is get at the people still working for ARPACA."
"What's that?"
"Advanced Research Protocol And Command Agency. Computer scientists from all over the world that get their funding from the U. S. defense department. These are the people that invented the Internet."
"Why do you want to get at them?"
"These are the people that go beyond hacking."
"What do you mean?"
"I can hack into a computer. I can set up barriers to hacking. These people operate on a whole other level."
"And you can get to them?"
"Mateo Ramos says he can introduce me, if I prove myself."
"So you're working for the Ewing's then on what ever they throw your way to prove yourself."
"Dude ARPACA are gods and they're on the verge of creating AI. Freaking intelligent life."
Liam grins. "Nice to be on the same team." He leans forward, kisses An and pulls him on top of him.
John Ross works with the boys cleaning out the horse stalls. Jake says, "Daddy when we're done here can we go for a ride just the two of us?"
"Jake don't you think that'd be a little mean leaving out your brothers and your cousins?"
"I don't mean to be mean daddy. I just want it to be me and you for a bit."
"Well, I tell ya what, your Aunt Lucy had an idea for an art project for you boys later to day. You keep helping me out her like my number one and we'll go for that ride then, just you and me."
Jack holds out his hand and says, "Deal."
John Ross shakes his hand and says, "Like my daddy always said, 'contracts were made to be broken, but a handshake is the law of God.'"
"Thanks daddy."
"You got something on your mind Jack?"
"I do. I want to talk business with you?"
"Business. I see. OK. We can do that."
"Considering your family it is hard to believe. And you all sleep up stairs?"
"Well Beau just moved in, after his wife died. But he's in Austin more these days then here."
