The dangers of right wing popularism is rearing its ugly head in the shape of incoming Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who wants to ban same-sex couples from adopting children and possibly dissolve same-sex couples' legal parentage over the children they've already adopted. Gay parents are considering fleeing the country.

For the EU with countries like Hungary and Poland already not willing to play in the team, this is horrendous. And Italy - also a NATO member - doesn't see Putin as the enemy. This may anger Poland but that's a country with established "queer free zones" and Russia aside they have a lot of common ground with Italy.
