Michelle Connor’s son is returning to Coronation Street.

The restaurant manager - who is played by actress Kym Marsh in the ITV soap - will be left shocked when her biological son Alex turns up in Weatherfield.

Alex, who now goes by the name Ali, will return after he lands a job at the medical centre and will return to the cobbles for the first time since 2008.

But he won't tell his mother.

A source said: "Ali settles himself in Weatherfield and seems happy to make friends with everyone else but gives his mum the cold shoulder.

Not forgotten about then...

Except for when he's not relevant to the storylines of course. But, in this particular one, he is.

Is Kate Oates on Wacky Backy. I thought we were all meant to forget about Michelles "real" son?

Not so, that's why I prefer to wait before criticising producers, scriptwriters of forgetting key elements, etc...

The reason Michelle hasn't mentioned him in recent years, is probably because in scenes she's in she doesn't have a reason to. Doesn't mean he's forgotten about.

The producer is targeted big time in recent years. Back in the early days the producer was almost unheard of and was just a name in the end credits. When people in general watch the old episodes on DVD, or TV repeats, etc... the producer's name is very seldom mentioned, unlike when new episodes are viewed.

Oh come on, she mentions the other Ryan. There has been so many occasions she could have mentioned her real son, when she lost Ruari, his birthday, Christmas, You are being too kind and generous.

However I do agree with when it comes to producers and the like. With forums like this, social media, soap mags, TV Listings and the Red Tops, we know who they are. They do many interviews, laying out their plots for the year ahead and such like. They open themselves up for criticism and praise as much as the actors and the show itself and that is fair enough! You can't have it both ways.

I fully understand your point, but my mind also works the other way too.

If the show is going to make a big deal about a particular story or character (and they did plough quite a bit into this story) then I would expect a mention or a nod to the past, even more so (like @Walford Boy points out) when Michelle suffered the terrible ordeal over losing Ruari.

Corrie has such a rich history and they don't always use it, instead, they write some really cheesy OTT stories which annoy the viewers.

Sure it does have a rich history but it can't live of nostalgia alone. There has to be new developments. The 80s saw many. I read in a TV times from 1983 that a viewer said she doesn't usually approve of new characters joining the show. Like it could have exactly the same set of characters from day 1. No long running show can do that. It's like going back to visit your old school and seeing people who weren't there when you were there.
