Carlo was great as Melissa's emotional, hotheaded father, and the closest to the "Italian familia"-theme they've ever done on the show.

Douglas seemed the nicest. Until we found out he had Angela's baby kidnapped in the '40s, and with little reason or explanation.

There was a perfectly reasonable explanation.

IMHO it would be between three men as to who would be the ultimate patriarch.
There was the ambitious and dangerous Carlo who was very protective (too much the thing) of his only child Melissa.
Then Chase who showed up to season 6 that he was a decent but smug family man and then during 1986 to 1987 he went off the rails, with Gabrielle in an apparent mid life crisis.
In season 5 the introduction of Peter Stavros happened. He became Angela’s third husband and always gave the impression of being a bit of a wind bag. However he was caring and considerate, in the midst of his billions of wealth.
Maggie and Vicki are waxing the family’s vintage blue convertible, outside the Gioberti castle mansion. Chase has had a meeting with Angela in her Falcon Crest study. Conversation arises between Maggie and Vicki about the movie script, (a scene from season 2, 1982-’83):
Maggie: “Well! I’ll tell ya, I’m used to a few hundred dollars here and there for a magazine article but this wavers on ridiculous!”
Vicki: “$25,000 for a movie script………do you think we could hire something to wax the car?”
Chase then appears in the Mercedes estate.
Maggie: “Hi honey!”
Chase: “Hi!”
Maggie: “Is something the matter?”
Chase: “Well! I was just up at Falcon Crest…….”
Vicki: “That explains it!”

I was honestly joking. There literally wasn't any sort of reasonable explanation to the story.
Except... maybe they had drunk too much of that poison wine and they all were hallucionating. I don't recall Douglas ever hating Angela, at least not that much. It was a pure convulted plot point.

I've convinced myself that Jacqueline tricked Douglas into thinking Richard was the bastard son of Carlo Agretti or somebody, Douglas guiltily taking the young man back under his corporate wing after Henri Denault bought and raised him.
Now here's a loaded question: why would Denault want or need an infant to buy? Did he molest baby Richard? Is that yet another reason why Richard is so effed up?
And was Jacqueline fully aware of Denault's evil intentions??

Ah yes good old Vince. He could have gave Carlo a run for his money, in throwing up the arms and was over protective too.

Vince was an all round good spud, who was wronged so much by the grape granny Angela. He was integral to the goings on between his daughter Linda and Cole, during season 3. So much so the poor oul fella didn’t know where he was coming or going. That said his bakery was the finest in the Tuscany Valley. Undoubtedly Chao-Li went over in the black Mercedes and bought a few buns; with hundreds / thousands on top, even if they were just for him and him alone.
Vince is working in his Tuscany Valley bakery. Linda visits her father but he becomes very emotional, explaining to her about his contempt for the Giobertis, (a scene from season 3, 1983 – ’84):
……. “Falcon Crest, Angela Channing that whole family they killed your mother, my Maria!”
Linda: “Papa but you can’t blame Cole or his family for that.”
Vince: “He is part of that family and you would leave me for them.”
Linda: “No!”
Vince then raises his arms in despair, exclaiming: “You have turned your back on the Caproni’s sorrow. Get out, get out of here now!”
Vince was working as a picker in the FC vineyards, after moving from his native Italy where he worked as a baker in the Army. Angela burnt his shack and those of his co-workers, so she could plant more vines. The workers were all forced to live in tents. This took its’ toll on Vince’s wife Maria who sadly died after 3 months living in those horrid conditions.

Let's not forget Pilar's papa Cesar, working hard to manage the vineyards.
