They really didn't give any of the cast many good storylines in the later seasons. Look what poor BBG had to put up with. She was a great character that wasn't particularly used well, but I thought her acting during Mickey's death and trial were great. I mean, I thought she could act really well when they gave her the material to do something. Post-Pam, they really couldn't think of good plots for anyone on the show, much less Lucy returning. It was all a mess, and even if they had given her a meaty plot, he would have been dumb and silly, and not very good because the show on the whole was no longer good.

Do you remember the storyline where Lucy was to marry Kit Mainwaring, the heir to the Mainwaring refinerey?Lucy had no hope because TPTB failed to utilise her the first time around.
I always attributed it to Miss Ellie - Gary was her favorite child and Lucy was his child and her (at the time) only grandchild. Miss Ellie probably mourned Lucy not being on Southfork. Jock would do whatever he could to please Miss Ellie. J.R. would do anything to make his father proud of him including any dirty work he felt necessary. Getting Lucy back to Miss Ellie would make her happy and and make Jock proud of J.R. I think J.R. was confident that he could handle Gary and keep him away or chase him away if he came back because J.R. knew Gary's weaknesses.JR trying to keep Valene and Lucy apart never made any sense to me. Logically, if Valene and Lucy reconnect, they would leave Dallas and Gary would have no reason to come back.
I think it was because JR considered Lucy a Ewing property and there was no way he was going to let Valene have anything that was a Ewing. It wasn't really about Gary because he had ran away. It all had to do with Valene. JR hated her.I always attributed it to Miss Ellie - Gary was her favorite child and Lucy was his child and her (at the time) only grandchild. Probably the best explanation I've read so far. Just a pity the writers didn't explore Lucy's back-story further. Lucy's presence at Southfork just didn't make enough sense to me at the time unless the writers had another story up their sleeve further down the track.I always attributed it to Miss Ellie - Gary was her favorite child and Lucy was his child and her (at the time) only grandchild.
