I’ve just been laughing on another thread, and then I saw this on my news feed and it literally threw from laughter to sadness in such a bolt!!

She was brilliant and lovely.

Her voice was perfect for the nighttime slot, such a nice and cosy feeling. She was the best thing about working the late shift. She introduced me to a lot of new music six in the 90s. I remember hearing Wannabe for the first time and immediately hated it, thinking it would never be a hit.

A true stalwart of the UK's music landscape. I've so much I could say about listening to her broadcasts and watching her TV shows and all the excellent music she put me onto.

Her BBC R1 weekend broadcast in the small hours was the soundtrack to many a session, to many to count.

But the greatest accolade I can offer Annie is this... After 10 years of hitting up the nightclub scene super hard, I retired from it after a night of booty shaking to Annie Nightingale holding court in The End. There was nowhere else to find better....

A beautiful light has been extinguished.
