DFF what are you doing to me... I've had to put the can down and put on my thinking cap, again to tackle a hard/excellent question. Here goes... I don't read books, but I like to discover new words and saying et cetera. I find them where I can and, no surprise, in lyrics. TV shows, Magazines, other people and elsewhere. I watch Countdown because of Suzy Dent. I have numerous, words and phrases that I dredge up from somewhere when the moment presents itself... I love how this word duo sounds when I say it, but not used very often just because... Phenotypic plasticity. Stumbled across that watching a documentary about a cave. Wireless... just like it's connotations from yesteryear, now usurped by "wifi". Mash-up... no need to explain I'm sure Fiend... First heard this in 1988 in way that struck me. Eric B and Rakim's track Microphone Fiend. The word can carry negative weight, alluding addiction. I use it in that sense and I also use it in a more watered down sense to hint that someone likes a certain proclivity... eg, Velma from Scooby Doo likes the ladies therefore she's a "pie fiend" See what I'm saying? Taken from Biggie Smalls.. "things done changed". Great phrase. "Don't turn your back on a brother like me, because I'm one broke motherf***er in need". I use this phrase as a way to suggest, If you can help the less fortunate. "My name is Dita, I'll be your mistress for tonight". Madonna saying that people wear many guises. I use it, and it's lost on the person that needs to understand. "You must be slinging crack rock" Biggie again. I use this to say "well done on your achievements. I'll spare you the rest. If someone in your local was reported miss, and considered a "at high risk" would you join a search party to help the police?
