I don't own any of the characters in this story and no copyright infringement is intended.
Season Ten of Dallas has always fascinated me. We get to see the slow reconciliation of JR and Sue Ellen, but unfortunately, we don't get to spend much time inside their heads and so often don't understand what they are really thinking and feeling or what emotions are truly motivating them.
When I asked for new fix ideas, Sarah suggested writing around the events of season ten from JR's perspective. I was so intrigued with the idea, that I decided to give it a go.
This fic will focus ONLY on JR and Sue Ellen and what happens between them. Other characters will appear, but only those who.directly affect their relationship. I will be making up scenes between them as well to help me more fully explore their actions and reactions. Also, if you read this, you'll probably be lost if you haven't actually watched season ten. Each update will revolve around the events of actual Dallas episodes without actually rehashing the episodes themselves.
So here it is, episode by episode, what I think was REALLY going on in JR and Sue Ellen's heads and hearts.

Season Ten Deleted Scenes That Live in My Imagination
Episode Eight: The Second Time Around
***
Sue Ellen felt just awful.
She'd told Miss Ellie about her meeting with Parmelee and that he had seemed eerily familiar to her. Her mother-in-law had been very upset. Sue Ellen truly wished she had never brought it up.
Still…
Miss Ellie wasn't the only one upset. Parmelee was getting further and further under JR's skin. Sue Ellen was enjoying her husband's discomfort immensely.
"What are you grinning about?"
JR's sharp voice broke Sue Ellen's train of thought. "Just thinking about how well plans for the wedding are coming together," Sue Ellen gave him a sweet smile. "It's going to be a lovely wedding, JR. I do so hope you'll enjoy it."
JR frowned and rolled his eyes. "You're loving this aren't you?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" She mocked him. "Pam and Bobby are so happy! And that makes me happy! Doesn't it make you happy too, my love?"
JR didn't bother to answer her. He brushed by her and made his way to his car.
That woman was seriously getting to him. He needed…
He needed to put her in her place and wipe that self satisfied smile off her face. There was one sure fire way to do that.
He was going to see Mandy. She's been avoiding his calls since the night they'd had dinner.
JR wasn't a man who would be ignored. Mandy was getting ready to find that out the hard way.

"Sue Ellen, you look happier every time I see you."
"Thank you, Jamie," Sue Ellen smiled at the younger woman. "I feel wonderful."
"That's obvious. Are you and JR reconciled?"
"What? No! Why on earth would you ask that?"
"I just…" Jamie shrugged. "The last time I saw you this happy, you were with him. I always felt bad about being the reason…"
"You weren't the reason," Sue Ellen reached out and covered Jamie's hand with hers. "JR is the reason, Jamie. It's always him."
"Maybe, but if I hadn't opened my big mouth…"
"I would have found out some other way," Sue Ellen shrugged. "Happiness with JR never lasts."
"But you still love him, don't you?"
"Oh. I suppose," Sue Ellen admitted. "I guess I always will. But finally, after all these years, I have built a life for myself that doesn't rise and fall around JR Ewing."
"I'm so happy for you."
"Thank you! Now, it's a beautiful day and a beautiful wedding shower! Let's focus on Pam and stop ruining the atmosphere by talking about JR Ewing!"
***
Thank you, Cassie." JR took the drink from the young waitress and downed it in one gulp. "Another," he grunted, setting the class to the side.
It was over with Mandy. Finally.
He had gone to her apartment to try to talk some sense into her, but instead he'd found her in the company of another man. That had led to a big fight and ugly scene in the lobby.
JR was angry. Mandy had crossed the line. He wouldn't simply let her go. No. She didn't get to call the shots on how their relationship would end. He'd find out who owned Valentine one way or another and make sure Mandy lost her tawdry little job.
But it wasn't because he wanted her back. It was because she needed to be taught a lesson.

"John Ross, slow down!" Sue Ellen laughed, "the food isn't going to disappear."
"Sorry, Mom! I'm starving!"
"Work up an appetite today, did you boy?" JR laughed as John Ross brushed by him on his way to the dinner table.
"I sure did! Mom took me and Christopher to the zoo! We walked for miles!"
"The zoo?" JR repeated, glancing at his wife. "Pam go with you?"
"No. She had some last minute wedding details to take care of."
JR's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Sue Ellen took the boys out alone. There was a time not too long ago that she wouldn't have been able to handle even one of them, let alone both.
He listened as John Ross excitedly told everyone about the adventure, occasionally glancing up at Sue Ellen. She was smiling and…
And beautiful.
She and John Ross seemed very close. How had he missed it? The way John Ross was talking about his mother, you'd think the woman was a saint.
And maybe she was. After all, she'd put up with him for all these years.
"Did you hear me, JR?"
JR looked up and realized his mother was talking to him. "I'm sorry, I was thinking about something else."
"Bad day, my love?" Sue Ellen asked him sweetly. "Want to tell your loving family all about it?"
"No, I don't Sue Ellen," he snapped at her. "I just want to eat my dinner in peace."
Sue Ellen didn't reply. She turned her attention back to John Ross, but her heart was soaring. She'd heard about the little scene between JR and Mandy at her apartment. If it wasn't completely done between them now, it would be very, very soon.

JR watched his wife and his son beneath hooded eyes.
He was such a fool.
John Ross was happy. Sue Ellen was happy. They'd spent all evening laughing and talking and watching TV together.
Regardless of how he felt about his marriage, one thing was certain; he couldn't divorce Sue Ellen. John Ross loved and needed his mother. It would be cruel of JR to put Sue Ellen out of the house and bring in another woman that could never take her place with their son. He felt a wave of self disgust wash over him. He'd almost hurt his son very badly with his own selfish desire for a divorce.
He knew Sue Ellen had no interest in reconciliation. And that was fine. They could continue to stay married and lead separate lives.
But he wouldn't take his son's mother away from him.
And maybe he and Sue Ellen could figure out a way to live together in peace. He had to try. For John Ross's sake, he had to try.

Episode Nine: Bells Are Ringing
***
Sue Ellen sat on the couch and watched JR down his fourth bourbon and branch. "Careful, JR. You don't want the family to think we have another drinker on our hands do you?"
"Ha! Don't you worry, Sue Ellen. Your place as Southfork's resident alcoholic is secure."
Sue Ellen narrowed her eyes and moved to stand up.
"Now, hold on, Sue Ellen," JR sighed. "I'm sorry. I know you haven't been drinking. I shouldn't take my frustration out on you."
"You really thought Pam and Bobby would call off the wedding, didn't you?"
"Yeah. I really did. I can't believe Pam went through with it after finding out Jenna is pregnant with Bobby's child."
"A woman in love will put up with a lot," Sue Ellen muttered.
"Yes,* JR said softly. "You know that all too well, don't you?"
Sue Ellen shrugged and didn't answer.
"Sue Ellen, can we talk? I mean really talk. No yelling, no sniping. Just a serious talk."
"Fine. Go ahead."
"It's over with Mandy."
"Really? How sad."
"No sniping," he reminded her.
Sue Ellen turned her head away. She knew he was lying to her. He had an appointment tomorrow morning with Valentine. If he was truly done with Mandy, there would be no need to speak with Valentine at all. "What do you want, JR?"
"A truce."
"What?" Sue Ellen's eyes widened with surprise. "Why?"
"You and I both know there won't be a divorce. If we're going to live together, we may as well try to live in peace."
"Peace?" Sue Ellen laughed bitterly. "JR, I'm sorry your little love affair went sour, but don't you dare think you're going to crawl back into my bed!"
JR slammed his empty glass down onto the bar. "I didn't say a damn thing about getting back into your bed, Sue Ellen. You couldn't get me to make love to you for all the oil in Texas."
Sue Ellen stood up and squared her shoulders. "Goodnight, JR."
"Hold on," he walked over and placed a tentative hand on her arm. "Look, I know…"
"What?" She snapped.
"You and I can never be together again. But, you're important to our son. You're important to this family. I won't push you for a divorce any longer. I just wanted you to know that."
"JR…"
"Don't," he sighed heavily. "Let's just leave it alone and go to bed. It's been a long day."
"Fine. Goodnight, JR."
"Goodnight," he watched her walk away from him with her head held high. "And Sue Ellen?"
She stopped in her tracks, but didn't turn back around to face him. "Yes?"
"I'm proud of you for the way you've cleaned up your act."
Sue Ellen sucked in a deep breath. "Thank you, JR."
He watched her walk up the steps and disappear down the hallway.
She was lost to him. But she was sober. Their son was happy.
That would have to be enough.

JR was confused, and more than a little irritated.
He'd gone to Valentine Lingerie to talk to the owner and try to get Mandy fired, but instead, he'd run smack into his wife.
What the hell had she been doing there? Sue Ellen was much too classy to wear that trash. And since the two of them weren't having intimate relations, what use did she have for sexy nighties anyway?
Unless…
Maybe she WAS having an affair after all.
No. No, that wasn't it. There was something going on with his wife, but JR was fairly sure it had nothing to do with another man.
Then why had she been at Valentine?
JR frowned when the very unpleasant thought that she was there shopping for something to tempt HIM crossed his mind. Surely she didn't think she needed to dress up in trash to attract HIS attention?
Had he done THAT much damage to her? That she thought she needed to emulate Mandy to turn him on?
No. He shook that thought away too. He had lashed out and told her that nothing she could do would ever turn him on. But her reaction to his insult, her breezy laugh and pointed teasing had made it clear that she knew as well as he did what a lie that was.
So WHY had she been there?
He suddenly realized that he had forgotten all about his real purpose for going to Valentine. As soon as he'd seen Sue Ellen, all thoughts of Mandy Winger had flown from his mind.
He decided he didn't care if Mandy lost her job or not. He didn't care what his former mistress did one way or the other.
His wife on the other hand…
He was bound and determined to find out EXACTLY what she was up too.

Sue Ellen was scared.
Wes Parmelee was a real problem. She could kick herself for going to see him in the first place. Now he felt comfortable going to John Ross's school! And today at the feed store he had been so forward with her!
He made her very uneasy. There was something about him that truly frightened her.
JR was so certain that he wasn't Jock, but Sue Ellen was starting to think maybe he was. And she knew Jock Ewing was a hard man. He would be furious that his family had rejected him, and he would take revenge.
The knot in the pit of her stomach tightened. Parmelee or Jock...or whoever he was clearly wasn't worried about the consequences of upsetting her over John Ross. And that truly panicked her.
She had to talk to JR about it all, whether she wanted to or not. John Ross's safety was being threatened.
She made the short walk across the hall and knocked on JR's bedroom door before she had a chance to talk herself out of it.
The door opened and JR's eyes were wide with surprise when he saw her. "Well, well. Come knocking on my door to beg me to spoil you for other men some more?"
"Please, JR. Not tonight. I need to talk to you about something important."
JR saw the worried look on her face and all his hostility melted away. "Come on in," he stepped away from the door and invited her into the room.
She sat down on the edge of the bed and struggled to find the right words.
JR could tell she was very upset about something. He sat down beside her, careful not to get too close and make her uncomfortable. "What is it, honey? What's wrong?"
He listened intently as she softly confessed to going to see Parmelee and offering him money, as she told him he's visited John Ross's school, and as she described her confrontation with him at the feed store.
"Is that all, Sue Ellen?" He asked her when she finally stopped talking.
"Isn't that enough, JR?" she asked, her voice shaking.
"Alright. You don't need to worry, honey. I'll make sure Parmalee never bothers you or John Ross ever again."
"You… you aren't angry with me for seeing him behind your back?"
"I'm furious with you, Sue Ellen," he told her truthfully. "But screaming and yelling at you over it won't accomplish anything. What's done is done."
"Yes. I suppose so."
JR stood up and walked to the window. "I'm smart enough to know it's partially my fault anyway. I'm the one who made you hate me that much."
"I…I don't hate you, JR."
"It pleases me to hear that, Sue Ellen. I know I destroyed our marriage and we can never… but we need to try to learn to live with each other and get along. For John Ross."
"Yes," Sue Ellen sighed sadly. "For John Ross."
"Well, I'll take care of Parmelee. But you stay away from him from now on."
"I will, JR," she promised, standing up and moving toward the door.
"Sue Ellen, what were you doing at Valentine Lingerie today?"
"I was shopping, JR," she told him.
"No you weren't," he challenged.her.."You have too much dignity and class to shop for such trash."
"Ready?" She laughed at him. "It wasn't so long ago that you told me I had no class and never did. At the restaurant that day. Remember that, JR?"
"I lied," he shrugged.
"Your greatest talent," she snapped at him. "The real question is what were YOU doing there? You told me it was over with Mandy. Already have a new tramp to shop for?"
"Sue Ellen…"
"Nevermind, JR. I really don't want to know."
She left his room and closed the door behind her, leaving him to stew in his regret.
