Who is in the Broadchurch 3 cast?
David Tennant and Olivia Colman will reprise their roles as DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller - and Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan also return to play grieving parents Beth and Mark Latimer. Doctor Who alumnus Arthur Darvill will return as local vicar Paul Coates along with a few more series one and two characters.

Are there any new characters in the cast?

Lenny Henry is among the big names to join the drama for the third run.

Former Corrie favourite Julie Hesmondhalgh, veteran star Roy Hudd, Murdered By My Boyfriend's Georgina Campbell, Sarah Parish, Charlie Higson and Mark Bazeley are all also appearing in the series.

When is Broadchurch series 3 set?

The story is set three years after the last episode of series two.

What is the plot of Broadchurch series 3, do you have any spoilers?

The new series will deliver a brand new case for Miller and Hardy with the detectives teaming up once again, this time to investigate a serious sexual assault and its consequences as the drama's Dorset community comes under scrutiny (as Tennant puts it: "There couldn't be another body on another beach").

Based on a year of research, the drama's final series will look at the emotional cost to everyone involved and the irreparable damage to friendships and relationships.

"This is the final chapter of Broadchurch," said writer Chris Chibnall who will take over as showrunner on Doctor Who in 2017. "We have one last story to tell, featuring both familiar faces and new characters. I hope it's a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me."

It's been two years since David Tennant's DI Alec Hardy hopped into the back of a taxi and left Broadchurch after Joe Miller walked free from his trial for the murder of Danny Latimer.

In Broadchurch time, that's THREE years, apparently, as Chris Chibnall brings his acclaimed mystery drama to a conclusion in the third and final series.

There's a brand new mystery for Hardy and Olivia Colman's DS Ellie Miller to solve, but before we dive straight back in for our last helping, there's time for a quick look back at what the townsfolk were up to when last we saw them by those cliffs on Broadchurch beach...

DI Alec Hardy - David Tennant

Hard-nosed Hardy couldn’t resist trying to secretly solve the Sandbrook case that haunted him throughout series one, and solve it he did, despite being signed off on sick leave and teaching at the police college. The former Broadchurch Police Inspector managed to get justice for Pippa and Lisa by locking up Claire, Lee and Ricky, but he couldn’t do the same for Danny Latimer unfortunately as Joe Miller walked free.

He did manage to finally sort out his health issues, though, and made up some ground with ex-wife Tess and daughter Daisy.

The series finale saw him sloping off in a taxi as the driver asked “where to?” and we assume we’ll get an answer as he returns to the seaside town (and that ridiculously nice beach hut house of his) to join forces with crime-solving partner and former chauffeur Miller (he wasn’t allowed to drive last time around, remember?) and catch the sexual predator who’s attacked a local woman.

DS Ellie Miller - Olivia Colman

Local policewoman Ellie went through the mill in series two, having been demoted to traffic duty while her husband stood trial for the murder of her best friend’s son. Her series one beating of her beloved Joe ruled his confession inadmissible, throwing the trial into chaos and obliterating her friendship with Beth Latimer. And to add insult to injury, she was accused of having it off with Hardy in front of the whole town.

While helping her superior solve the Sandbrook case, the now-single mum struggled to deal with her tempestuous son Tom, who moved himself out of the house when he felt nobody was speaking up for his murderer father in court, and journalist nephew Olly’s need to live-blog every mortifying minute of the proceedings. Miller was on flying form as she finally ordered her son home.

And despite suffering a blow when Joe walked free, she ended the series on a high, reconciling with pal Beth and threatening to kill her husband and face the consequences for it should he ever try and contact the family again. That’s the Miller we’re hoping to meet when she reunites with Hardy to solve yet another Broadchurch crime.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Season 3. It is sad this is the final season for the series. David Tennant and Olivia Colman work so great together. One of the Best series I have ever watched.

Is season 3 better than season 2? I went off this series after I lost interest a few episodes into season 2 so I've not bothered to watch any of season 3 so far.

Oh yes @Angela Channing.
Its much better than S2 which i thought went off the boil for about 4 episodes, but the last 2-3 were great and charlotte rampling and marianne jean babtiste excellent in it and a good conclusion although not the ending i hoped for as he got off.

This is a new story about a woman who was raped at a friends bday party, and so far its shaping up nicely.

I watched the whole season over the weekend, what a brilliant series. It was quite uncomfortable to watch sometimes, but Miller and Hardy were outstanding. I just love these two, I'm going to miss them.
I had no clue who'd done it, but guessed the offender at
the beginning of the last episode, when they arrested the cab driver and showed his son's reaction. The way this all played out was excellent though and this Leo guy is despicable.

I'm sad that there won't be another season. The second series was a bit of a letdown, but they've finished on a high note with this one.
