Funnily enough I don't agree with a lot of that list - for me characters who "overstay" their welcome are those who needlessly hang around after their plot arc has ended. So, someone like Sean Rowan wouldn't fall into that category, as an example. I don't think Lindsay overstayed her welcome either, she filled her purpose in the plot for poor Crazy Claudia.

It looks like a list of characters that didn't work for them, and in that case every minute they appear on screen is one minute too much.

Grant Harrison on Another World had a good run as the town villain, but toward the end of his run the writers had run out of good motivation for him to continue being mean to people. Years earlier he had shot his own brother in the back, but after a few months in jail he pulled some strings (as an ex-Senator) and got pardoned. I think they should have just left him to rot in jail forever.

I still think that Lindsay could have been more accepted with a possible recast in Season 02. An older actress, perhaps.

I read someplace that Maurice Benard asked for them to devise some sort of plotline that would allow him to have a lighter work load for a while because he needed a 'mental health break'. This Nixon Falls story was their response to that request. Now they seem to be having too much fun writing Port Charles moving on without him.

I loved Dack Rambo so much, Mark Pinter always seemed like a dirty old man. My feelings didn't change when I rewatched!

I think the four US soaps are currently well positioned with their characters. There are only a few that I hope will have a good exit storyline soon and then finally be gone: Y&R's Tucker, B&B's Sheila, GH's Drew and Days' Harris.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love the Sheila character and what it’s meant to daytime for over 35 years, but I think it’s really time to wind things down now. It’s just too much repeat even for daytime, and I feel it stretches the limits of plausibility way too far at this point. Give her a nice exit and move on but of course this will never happen realistically. Sheila is just too iconic and too valuable and there will always be room for one more run for the character.

Well, Harris looks to be out as Steve Burton is returning to GH.

For DAYS I'd argue Rafe is one of those odd characters that seem to have hung around needlessly on the show for over 15 years now; I'm guessing someone at NBC must like him since he jumped straight from Passions and onto DAYS. All attempts to write him out have quickly led to him being back soon after. It's not even that I dislike the Rafe as such, it's more that I'm not sure why they're so insistent on having him on the show, especially as a regular cast member considering the shoe-string budget they have.

I have just loved Kimberlin Brown's Sheila over the years, and though I would enjoy watching KB take on a new role on another soap, I think she's been typecast as Sheila (or at least Sheila-esque). Even if another soap (*cough*GH*cough*) were to hire her away, you know they'd likely try to do Sheila 2.0. If that's all they want to do, then just stick with OG Sheila. B&B certainly is no stranger to doing the same stories over and over. KB did have another role on GH's spin-off Port Charles, but that show did not give her the chance to be a leading lady.

That said, can you imagine what sort of bat-shit-craziness Ron Carlivati would cook up if Days were to appeal to parent-company Sony and get "custody" of the Sheila character?

The Logan coven on B&B. Ruining the show together with the extremely bias writing. Fine, Brooke & Hope can stay because they have many fans (lord knows why), but get rid of the rest of them. Katie, Donna and RJ.

B&B decided they "don't need" Taylor. But apparently they feel a strong need for what feels like 100 Logans and 100 Loganized men. Bias much.
