Which characters who were apparently forgotten needed to make more appearance in your opinion? For me I would have loved to see more of Annie Fairgate, Susan Philby and Sid and Abby's nephew Paul Fairgate. Annie could have appeared more and developed a relationship with Sid. Also, she and her mother were no shows for Sid's death. It would be funny if Susan was around when Mack was around and made a play for him, particularly when Teddy returned in Season 4. Paul could have inherited part of Lotus Point from his great-uncle. Who were his parents, a brother and sister-in-law of Sid and Abby?

We needed to find out what happened to Ben. Valene's absence in Season 14, and her sudden reappearance at the last moment, should have been tied to Ben in some way.

It's not stated in dialogue whether Susan and/or Annie attended Sid's funeral. In the graveside scenes the cameras were tightly shooting Karen and her kids so we don't know if they were there and just out of shot. Susan didn't seem like the type who would show up, since she would not be the center of attention , and by then I'm sure Annie was off chasing Indiana Jones in the jungle.
Paul's father (Paul Sr.) had been older than both Sid and Abby and had apparently died long before, since nothing was said of Paul's presence when Sid was forced to assume parental responsibilities for Abby when both their parents died. Though an argument could be made that Paul, Jr. deserved to inherit part of the apartment building from Uncle Roger, the show must have either forgotten his one-episode appearance, or they decided it best not to muddy the waters further. Like Karen Allen, Paul's portrayer Kale Browne had moved onto other acting work. Also, he married Karen Allen and they had a child together.

In addition to the characters already mentioned, Lilimae really should have visited more than once—whether to meet her new son-in-law Danny, to be there when he died, when Valene passed away, or when Valene returned for the series finale.

It would have been in character for Laura to try to mediate between Richard and his daughter; consequently, a visit from Mary Francis would have made sense. Furthermore, Laura could have made one last attempt by inviting Mary Francis to her memorial service, giving her a chance to reconcile with Greg. All of that could have happened, though there wasn't strictly a narrative necessity for it.

One character there was absolutely no need to bring back—though I would have liked to see it happen just as Gary and Jill’s relationship began to crumble—is Judy Trent. Gary could have run into Judy at Alcoholics Anonymous and told Jill about it. Viewing Judy as a threat to her relationship with Gary, Jill could have planted drugs on her and had her arrested, putting her behind bars. That way, the audience would have seen what the once-decent Jill was now capable of, foreshadowing what would eventually happen to Valene.
