Chip vs Danny

Chip was a calculated con-man. He knew how to work his way in. He preyed on Poor Lilliemae. He was able to carry on 2 affairs with Diana and Ciji right under there noses. He was able to turn Diana against Karen. The one person that he could not fool was mother hen Karen. She saw him from the very beginning.

Danny was a very disturbed narcissus. One minute he is cool and trying fit in the cul-de sac. The next he is locking Val out of her own house. Not to mention a under cover rapist. He took psychotic to a new level. He was so obsessed with getting Gary out of the way. He attempted to kill Gary. Thank goodness for the air bags that Gary had put into the car. He wanted an instant family.

He attempted to kill Gary.
And he needed the news or newspaper to have it confirmed. I thought that was kinda odd, like, when Jean Hackney believed that Greg was dead.
There was no explosion (although most soap characters are immune to explosions) and he didn't see Gary's dead body. Come to think of it, Jill assumed that Val would die from the pills, but she was still alive when Jill left.

Both are great villains. Chip probably has the edge because I find myself liking his relationships with Lilimae and Ciji, even though it's based on lies and fantasy. The best villains are the people you know are bad, and yet you can't resist liking them anyway. Even near Chip's end, I was wanting him to get away, but his death from falling on a pitchfork after seeing Ciji's doppelganger, Cathy, was fitting. Danny seems a nice guy in his early episodes, but it's not long before you realize he's seriously bad news, and has a scary casual approach to ruining people's lives, even to killing them. I loved it when Gary scared the heck out of him with the baseball bat.

I hated Danny from the very beginning - everything about him - and I really enjoyed hating him. I have no problem with villains being rotten to the core.

Right from the beginning? If I remember rightly, the first time we see Danny is him helping Val with a computer. You guys disliked him even then?
