It’s wild to think that ITV wanted rid of it, despite it being one of their Top 10 shows and then being a commercial broadcaster. It was only in the last two years of its run that it started dropping out of the Top 10 for the month. I wonder was there a level of snobbery attached to it, similar to people’s attitude to the likes of Mrs Brown’s Boys these days, where critics slate it and people constantly call it out as being bad TV, yet the ratings are always great.
Yes, I really do think so. What's popular with viewers sometimes takes the press by surprise.
I think it was Thames Television that wanted to pull the plug because they wanted more programming to attract younger viewer. As Thames was the biggest and most powerful region, the others had to take note of their views. I think they put local news in that time slot after Crossroads went off air and it got even lower audience figures.
I think London Weekend Television had a similar gripe with Albion Market when they’d to air it on Friday and Sunday evenings, in slots usually reserved for their big light entertainment shows. Probably didn’t help that it was a woeful show as well.

There’s quite a few Nolly interviews and Crossroads documentaries of varying picture quality, like the 21st birthday one, floating around online, so it’d be great to see them all packaged as extras.
For sure. Her episode from the Unforgettable series that ITV did was good but brief, so it’d be nice to see a longer look back at Noele’s life. She really was a TV pioneer back in the day pre-Crossroads, so there is an interesting story to be told.

Oh yes, Matthew Sweet is always excellent value. He's a proper professor of something or other, yet he talks about your Crossroads and Carry Ons and Doctor Who's with the same learned enthusiasm as ... whatever it is professors usually talk about (Greek statues?). He's very interesting on that thread about the actress who played Trina MacDonald, the wife of the first ever Black family on XRDS.
That's really great! I think calling it a parody does it a disservice.

I have the volume one DVD of Revelations that he talks about here (there were no further volumes released beyond that). “Shakespeare on a micro-budget” is a perfect description of it. After the pilot, which featured location shooting in a country house, everything was shot in a studio. The way some of it was lit, it almost felt like you were watching a play.
