That comes across strongly in this overview of the series, including the behind-the-scenes dramas that led to its demise:

Yeah, pretty much what we've always heard. It doesn't sound like anyone's lying here -- not even Cybill necessarily. (Who knows about the uncompleted pass she received from the executive -- it could've happened). As many of us have said, she's a pretty good actress, but self-destructive, what with her Lucy Van Pelt personality.

Some difficult people -- many, in fact --- know consciously that they are so. Cybill said in an interview (back when MOONLIGHTING was still on, I believe) that she has anger issues. (Russell Crowe conceded the same thing about himself).

So it all depends on whether you want to put up with it, and whether you think they and their work are worth it. Sometimes it very well is, but you're going to get bitten (except Les Moonves, whom she apparently refused to bite).
