Television news broadcast, “The SEC has descended on West Star over a book cooking scandal which is expected to leave the company bankrupt and the carcass for others to pick apart. Many are saying this is the beginning of the end for big oil. What do you think Adam Milton, Michigan economist and author of several books on how changes in automobiles have altered global markets.”

“I think we’ve been seeing the end of global oil. Late teens batteries were remarkable. Now something no bigger than my briefcase can hold enough power to run a large home for a week in the winter using electric heat. Now that was a game changer. Companies like West Star got greedy trying to hold onto their market capitalization.”

“What do you make of the Ewing’s pulling out before the SEC arrived?”

“Fortunate timing. We all knew they were going to. John Ross’s sister is sole heir of Harwood Oil. Only big independent left. He’s been planning a merger for years. With West Star refusing to play ball he went Calco. Another company with a wobbly balance sheet. Merging the two and taking Calco private made perfect sense for the Ewing’s. And now we know why West Star’s management was so against the idea. Looking too closely at the books would have exposed the cooking process years ago.”

“Who’s out to dry?”

“Well the creditors will take a bath that’s for starters. But the shareholders will walk away with nothing. So we’re talking about Trident, another company the Ewing’s went after, but as soon as they dumped their West Star shares, along with the DelSol Group, Trident pounced, driving the shares back up and forcing a take over.”

“Which exposed the books.”

“Exactly. Trident’s in free fall. I think the company will survive but I’ve got to believe someone will pick it up next. Exxon, Shell, maybe even the Ewing’s. Then there’s Luna Corp of Venezuela and de la Vega of Spain. Both jumped in with Trident. Luna has the Venezuelan government go rescue it or kill it. My guess is kill it with the riots going on over there. And de la Vega is most likely gone, though they have some media assets which might be safe. Finally the Wendell Family. Talk about a bunch of people with all their eggs in one basket. Just trying to strave off total Ewing Control forced them into putting everything they had into West Star. I guarantee you they’re working hard to salvage what they can.”

“And the executive team?”

“Prison terms all around.”

John Ross says, “Charlotte. What brings you out here?” taking off his work gloves in one of the Southfork barns.

“You did it, didn’t you? The long game. You played it out until West Star was buried and my father’s estate right along with it.”

“You’re saying I set up the cooking of the books? If you remember right he was your pick.”

“From a short list Juan Carlos DelSol handed the board.”

“You’re picking up the pieces of West Start and merging CalcoHarwood and Trident pretty much have you away.”

“Benefiting from your misfortune proves nothing.”

“I don’t need proof to know what happened. Since your father died you’ve been gunning for one enemy of his after another and now you’ve finally done it. Nothing’s left.”

“As far as I’m concerned they did themseleves in, starting with Cliff Barnes. He went bat shit crazy. He should be thanking me I found a nice place for him to rest for his remaining years after killing my father and my cousin’s babies. But I took pity on him. The Barnes, they’re all crazy. Found my Aunt Pam hidding in some nut house in Switzerland. Helped her out and now my Uncle Bobby looks after her. So no Charlotte, I’m not after my father’s enemies otherwise those two would have been top of the list.”

“I’m not here for a confession from you or even to make a threat. I’m hear to size you up.”

“Well now that you have, head on out.”

“I’m a patient woman Mr. Ewing.”

“Good. You’ll need patience to rebuild what you’ve lost. I spoke to Leeland bank.” He pulls out a sheet of paper. “I paid off the mortgage on your father’s house and put it in trust for your niece along with the annuity to maintain it. Jolie doesn’t need to pay for your and your brother’s mistakes.” He hands her the papers.

She takes them. “What are you up to?”

“My grandpa Clayton use to tell me they use to get together and rebuild when a neighbors barn or house or what ever burned down. Consider that my contribution.”

“This doesn’t end things.”

“No I don’t expect it will. But hopefully your niece and my children won’t end up fueding because of it.”

Charlotte leaves.

Up by the house John Ross sees a beautiful blonde walk out of the pool. “Kirin. Where’s Jack and Amy?”

“They went in the house.”

“You enjoying the cottage?”

“Yes. Thank you John Ross. I didn’t realize how much my income was tied to West Star stock. They’re saying I have to file for bankruptcy.”

“Was all your money from Jordan Lee?”

“The one trustfund I had, yes. After he died they sold the company to West Star. Then theirs some money I got from my mothers parents.”

“The Anderson’s must have left you well off and that trust should be protected from the debts of the Lee trust fund.”

“I dint know. I don’t understand any of it.”

“You need to let me out my people on it.”

“Would you?”

“Of course. I’ll have someone contact you soon. Don’t worry. We’ll figure it out.”

John Ross goes inside, taking one more look at her magnificent, bikini clad body.

In the kitchen Lucy and Amy work with the cook on diner when John Ross walks in, “Something sure smells good.”

“Grandma’s chili,” Lucy answers. I’m showing Amy how to make it.”

“Yes we all had to learn grandma’s secret chili receipt. But the secret’s not in the cooking, but from her garden. 5 different peppers her grandpa planted for her like a hundred years ago.”

“Seriously?” Amy asks. “I don’t have to garden too, do I?”

“I hope not,” Lucy laughs.

John Ross kisses Ellie on the cheek and says, “You just sit there and look pretty.”

Ellie smiles and holds jo her glass of wine, her father walking out of the kitchen.

Lucy says, “Ellie is proud she’s the one seeing who is proud she has never made Southworth chili.”

“I just think it’s always better to hire professionals. Like Louise, she learned to cook in some of the best schools in Europe. Right?”

“I studied under Eugénie Brazier for a bit, mostly under Paul Bocuse. I came back and worked in New York for years until Miss Lucy offered me a job. We had some of the best parties in New York, didn’t we?”

“We certainly did. Every weekend we filled my apartment with the most interesting people and smells from Miss Louise‘s kitchen. Those were the days.”

“And you hired Mr. Edward.”

“I really didn’t think he’d leave the city. You lived in New York for a while, Ellie, tell Amy, there’s something about that place that can’t be replicated anywhere else.”

“Well Lucy has this magnificent townhouse in Turtle Bay. I’ll have to tear you away from cooking and take you up there one weekend.”

“So you don’t cook at all?” Amy asks.

“I’ve found in life it’s better to leave every task
up to professionals.”

“Not every task,” Amy laughs.

Catching the innuendo, Lucy laughs too.

Ellie looks puzzled at first and then says, “Oh that. Well of course that too.”

“No way,” Amy exclaims.

“What? Of course. Lucy has spent years trying to teach me about love. Considering her number of marriages, twice to one man, it all seems too messy to me.”

Lucy and Amy chuckle.

I like the part of Lucy passing on Miss Ellie's chili receipe to the next generation.

I don't like Ellie flirting up a storm with the ranch hand who had done porn. :re:

Am I right to assume that Huda is the daughter of the character that PamBecca was involved with in season three?
The actor was also playing Arastoo on Bones...

I didn’t want to make Lucy seem to much the traditional stereotype and cook in the kitchen but I figured somethings like chili was different. Ellie would never cook - she’ll have a hard time even figuring out why she was in the kitchen at all. But I did want it to remind people of Miss Ellie and how she would have loved to shown all her grandchildren to cook. John Ross will like the chili but everyone will agree his is the best - he has a secret ingredient.

Ellie is JR and just as he was a sexual predator, so is she. Her business deals will be underhanded and masterful and ruthless. She’ll need her father to keep her in check and she’ll need to find her soulmate but it won’t be pretty when the two collide just as it was painful when JR and Sue Ellen collided. Also Jack is like Bobby, the playboy everyone likes, drawing him into politics, except he married the girl from the right family but she’s just as much for pushing her man as Pam pushed Bobby at first. And Steven in Gary, tormented. One major difference - they don’t fight each other. They go to great lengths to avoid fighting each other. They fight others because they won’t fight each other. Lucy and John Ross taught them above all to love each other.

Huda is his sister. His father probably had 50 children or more so I’m ok with the major age difference. She’s angry that the Dallas Post exposed her brother as gay and he was executed in their home country. Judith owned the Post at the time but you can be sure John Ross was behind her article. John Ross is as capable as JR and Jock ever were and then some.

John Ross walks into his bedroom, Miss Ellie’s big master bedroom and strips, walking into the shower.

Jack walks into the kitchen. “Grandma’s chili. Did you get dad to doctor it?”

Amy says, “No. Why?”

Lucy answers, “John Ross has this secret ingredient that he adds. Some power mix of his own. He thinks it take it up to the next level.”

“It does,” Jack says.

Ellie huffs. “We’re talking chili here.” She nods at Louise and Wdward rolls her eyes in agreement at her.”

Lucy says, “He got it from your great grandmother DelSol.”

“Just because my mother’s family loved chili as much as the Ewing’s doesn’t mean that any of them are right. Which is why Louise is making me my own dinner.”

“You don’t like chili?” Amy asks.

“Can’t stand it.”

Steven enters the room, “Oh my god chili night! Sweet. Did dad do his doctoring?”

Jack answers, “Not yet.”

Up stairs Karin, wrapped in a robe strips in John Ross’s bedroom to her bikini and then naked before walking into the the bathroom. From in the bathroom you here her say, “Mind if I join you.”

“I’m not sure where you think this is gonna lead you, but I don’t need another Mrs. Ewing.”

Karin laughs it off. “Just thought we could have some fun.”

“I’m all for that darlin’, just got to get the parameters straight.”

Lucy, Ellie and Amy gather in the living room. Amy says, “So I’m told everyone knows Ewing’s all mate for life, no matter how bad things get. Like JR and Sue Ellen, Bobby and Pam.”

Lucy laughs, “That’s true. My mother and father.”

“You,” Ellie interjects.

“You?” Amy asks.

“Ellie’s referring to Mitch Cooper, my first husband.”

“And John Ross?” Amy asks.

“That gets complicated but defiantly Pamela Barnes, Cliff Barnes’s daughter.”

“What about Jack’s? Mom?”

“That’s Elena Ramos and she’s the love of our cousin Chris’s life.”

“And she’s in prision?”

“Yes. She got involved in drug smuggling and money laundering. She nearly got Chris killed. Took him years and years of rehab. Like I said, it doesn’t go well for either party.”

“No I guess not.”

“What about you Ellie? Who’s your true love?” Amy asks.

“Love is for moggies.”

Now you've got me curious what John Ross secret ingredient is...
It kind of reminds me of when my sister began making my grandma's special pickles and although she followed the receipe she never got it quite the same as our grandma. But then we learnt her secret ingredient and now it tastes the same! ;)

Lucas steps out on the back porch where John Ross in his heavy lambskin coat sips on a bourbon. “What’s the noise?” he asks, referring to the techno music blaring from the arena.

“The kids are throwing Jack an engagement rave.”

“I see. And we’re too old to attend.”

“I don’t know about you but I feel like I am. So no Huda tonight?”

“No. Haven’t heard from her since dinner the other night.”

“Probably best. Just another Ewing enemy.”

“Yeah. Seemed to want to blame you for putting her brother.”

“And pilfering her county’s oil reserves. Never mind most of her people lived in poverty under her father.”

“So you seem to be making your own enemies.”

“Yea well I stopped caring what other people thought of me a long time ago.”

“The Wendells.”

“Stupid. They kept sinking so much into that company it’s their own fault they’re broke. Hell a little kid knows about all the eggs in one basket thing.”

“That’s true. I heard the Lee’s are gunning for you. Word has it, you set up West Star.”

“I don’t much care about gossip either. Just looking for someone to blame and the Ewing’s are always it. You better get use to it, if you’re going to go by the name Ewing.”

Out in the arena, all the equipment cleared out, the giant space turned into a dance floor, twenty somethings dance like they’re in a big city club. Steven sits up at a extra long makeshift bar. Jack and Amy dance in the middle off the room, more like engaging in foreplay.

Amy leans into him, hands on both cheeks, pulling his ear to her lips. “Remember what I said. You feel the need to screw around, just don’t embarrass me or I’ll embarass you.” She then swats his ass.

Karin pulls an awkward Steven out to dance with her.

A guy hands Ellie a drink. “You say this down.”

She looks at a guy standing behind him as she takes it. The guy shakes his head ‘no.’

Ellie offers it back and says, “No thank you. You drink it.”

“No I don’t like it.”

“I insist.”

“No. I don’t want it.”

“Then I’ll just keep it, get it tested.”

“Why? For what?”

“See what you added to it.”

“You can’t prove I added anything to it.”

Ellie smiles. “Lots of people have tried put one over on my family, you can visit ‘em in the cemetery and find out, we didn’t need proof.”

“What the hell Ellie.”

“Your choose. Drink it, show me I don’t have anything to worry about or find out what happens when my friends get a hold of this.”

The guy takes it, shaking he considers it, then downs it.

Lol. Glad you liked it.

Yeah since Steven (as in Steven Clayton, named after Clayton who I figured was named after his dad and called by his middle name and then named his son after him and called him Dusty) is like reading my name and nothing like me I’d add a Karin. lol.

Nope lots of places for people to stop by, Mitch, Lucy’s parents, and lots of people.

John Ross stops Ellie coming down stairs in the bright morning. “Why did I get a call from Dan Luce this morning saying his son didn’t come home from the party last night and he got a call from him, brought in by the police, found naked and addle brain in Belle Isle Park, in Detroit.”

“Cold time a year to be going naked up north.”

“What happened to that boy?”

“He offered me my drink I’d sat down and I just asked him to drink it instead.”

“Your drink.”

“I handled it daddy.”

John Ross laughs, “Well Luce is pissed but I guess he can just stay pissed.

Ellie and John Ross step out onto the patio, laughing, as Louise sets the breakfast out. Lucy asks, “What’s so funny.”

“Dan Luce’s boy tried to slip something in Ellie’s drink last night and she switch up on him. He was so out of it, ended up in Detroit.”

“You’re kidding. Oh that is funny. But really, what are you doing letting a boy like that over here? What kind of monster is he?”

“Good point. I’ll have Mateo put a tail on him. Catch him with some evidence next time and take care of the situation.”

“Good idea. You can’t let someone like that out in the world. Ellie you’re lucky you didn’t end up drinking it. God knows that some like that could do to you. I’ve been in that situation.”

“I know you have and you taught me well,” Ellie says. “Never trust a man handing you a glass.”

“Are you OK?”

“Of course I am.”

“Well if you’re sure. And John Ross, make sure you handle this right. Have Mateo kept an eye on him, but let the police handle the situation. No Ewing dirty tricks.”

“Yes Lucy. Everything will be legal and above board. I promise. If he’s stupid enough to try such a think with my daughter, god knows who he’ll hurt.”

“Who’s that?” Steven asks.

“Dan Luce’s boy.”

“Avery?”

“You know him?”

“Of course. Everyone knows Avery. Real jerk. Thinks he’s gods gift to man kind.”

“Your sister had an issue with him last night,” Lucy adds.

“She would. Most girls don’t tell Avery no. And El wouldn’t give someone like that the time of day.”

“A pervert?” Lucy asks.

“No. An idiot. He’s as dumb as a box of rocks but thinks he isn’t. Spots all this entitlement crap and capitalism. She couldn’t tell you who Adam Smith was let alone read one word he wrote. I tried once talking to him about it. He just made crap up.”

“Who we talking about?” Jack asks stepping out of the house.

“Avery Luce,” John Ross answers.

“Oh hell. That piece of crap. Asked me once if I’d ever meet my ‘spic mother.”

“What did you tell him?” Lucy asks.

“No, but I’ve meet every part of his momma.”

Sitting down to lunch they all laugh.

“What happened?” John Ross asks.

“We got in a fight. Beat the crap out that pansy. Then his friends jumped in. Then my friends. Big brawl and we avoid each other ever since. That was probably six years ago.”

“Right after high school?”

“Yea. Summer before college.”

Lucy says, “well let s not waste any more time on that little bastard. Speaking of college, Steven. Your announcement.”

“You have an announcement?” John Ross asks.

“Yes. Miss Lucy was snooping when I opened the letter.”

“What letter?”

“I got into Michigan’s Nuclear Engineering Ph.D. Program.”

The family lays on congratulations. Lucy announces she expects Steven home on weekends. John Ross asks him if he’ll finish up his internship for the company and that if he wouldn’t be better doing an internship for Ewing Energy in one of their nuclear power plants. Ellie mentions that Ewing Industries is also invested in businesses which are engaged in nuclear waste disposal, reactor manufacturing, nuclear fuel manufacturing and even uranium mining. Jack says he’s got an old school friend at the The Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Amy and Karin having joined the family for breakfast out by the pool, John Ross stands and says, “Well I’ve spent way too much time this morning lollygagging around. I’m starting feel like Ellie. I might just end up reading a book.”

Jack laughs, “Please, we all know you’ve already been out to the barn, meet with Mateo and who ever else in your den and over the phone with your assistant before you even sat down to eat.”

Steven standing says, “I’m running late myself to get in by nine.”

Lucy adds, “Can I get a ride with you? I hate rush hour traffic and I’ve got foundation meetings from ten on.”

Amy says, “I’ve got a meeting with the Oil Barons Ball Committee later today and then go over the catering, I could bring you home.”

“Perfect. Thank you.”

Karin says, “Can I tag along too? I’ve got to meet with some lawyers the whole family’s coming together to go after West Star. See what can be salvaged I guess. Maybe we can have lunch.”

Lucy says, “Sure. Etienne’s?”

“That I’d be perfect.”

Jack says, “Well looks like everyone has a full day of work then since I’ve got campaign stuff that’ll take me right past diner tonight. Everyone but Ellie. Remind me what it is you do again sister dearest.”

Ellie pushes him into the pool. As he comes up laughing she answers, “I teach you to keep on guard brother darlin’.”

Jack splashes her and the rest laugh.

In his campaign office a young girl walks in and Jack eagerly greets her. “Jolie. How are you? You come by to volunteer?”

“Oh god no. Can you imagine the look on my father’s face?”

“How is your father?”

“Well considering West Star cost him billions
And he blames your father, he’s his usual.”

“It’s a terrible situation.”

“For some. Not all.”

“Missed you at the engagement party.”

“I thought it best not to show. Heard about Avery ending up in Detroit.” They laugh. “I cann’t stand him but then no one really can. Anyway I did come to ask a favor.”

“For my favorite Texan. Go ahead. Shoot.”

“You might not want to offer that option to a Wendell right now. Anyway, you know I’m involved in the Carroway House, right?”

“Of course . . . Oh. You want my family to help out.”

“They’re in a panic over my family’s financial constraints.”

“Of course we will. Tell them not to worry. Have them contact the Ewing Farlow Foundation tomorrow. I’ll talk to Lucy tonight. We’ll replace anything and then some. Promise.”

“Thank you Jack. You really are the one decent Ewing.”

“There is more than one of us, but thank you.”

They hug.

So I’m thinking Mitch should show up at some point.

So should Pamela Rebecca.

Maybe even Bobby.

At some point everyone should be mad at Ellie. And someone should go to shot her but no. Lol.

I need a couple of ideas of issues they’d face like they’ve done cancer and alcoholism and miscarriage - but something the family hasn’t had to face in the past.

Loved the latest update. So great how Ellie outsmarted that jerk that tried to date rape her. Serves him right to end up in Detroit. :rlol:

Who's Jolie's father?
I get a feeling it's someone we are familiar with since before...

Yay! Mitch will show up. Definitely looking forward to that. :spinning:

Oh and the Oil Baron's Ball too. That should be good!

Honestly I don't know what you should have the character go through that hasn't been done before.

Ellie is her grandfather’s granddaughter. ;)

Jolie is Jeremey Wendell’s Granddaughter, so we didn’t meet him before but the family. The Wendell’s are replacing the Ewing’s in the family feud business, except the Wendell’s are Goliath and the Ewing’s David. They may have lost West Star - but the battle has only begun.

I know - they’ve done so much over the years - covered so much.

News broadcast: “Trident began merger talks with CalcoHarwood, seeking SEC approval, in the latest round of oil company mergers. And West Star filled for bankruptcy in a collapse of share price which has knocked the Wendell family out of the ranks of Forbes list. Charlotte and J. Paul Wendell, each reportedly worth around twenty-six billion dollars at the height of the fall out are finding most of it gone. Truly a story of Goliath being taken down. But they are not alone. The de la Vega Group of Spain which was also particularly hard hit is now fighting off a hostile take over bid from the DelSol Group of Mexico. And countless others are feeling the effects of a crooked executive team and their greed. Criminal cases have been slow to proceed . . .”

Several cars line the drive way of Southfork. Inside everyone’s dressed for the ball. John Ross talk with Juan Carlos and Mateo by the bar in the living room. Jack and Amy work the room separately as if a campaign function. Lucy walks in the room with Mitch on her arm and introduces him to a few friends. John Ross says to Juan Carlos and Mateo, “I’m glad they figured out a way to make it wirk.”

Mateo says, “Mitch in New York. Lucy in Dallas. Travel back and forth occasionally.”

“Seems to be the formula.” John Ross then says, “Excuse me,” and walks across the room. “Lucas. Huda. Glad you could make it.”

Huda says, “Thank you for inviting us. I’m told the hottest ticket in town is the Southfork cocktail party before the Oil Barons Ball.”

“Well that would be Lucy’s doing. Is your father coming?”

“No. He kinda wants to keep his distance from Southfork.”

“Your sister?”

“I think she’s going straight to the ball from the airport.”

“Shame. Get you two a drink?”

Lucy and Mitch walks up to Juan Carlos and a group of people gathered with him an Mateo which includes Bill and Hillary Clinton. “Welcome to Southfork. Secretary Clinton. Governor Clinton.”

Hillary Clinton says, “Thank you for inviting us. You have a lovely home.”

“Thank you. It was my grandparents. My grandmother’s family have lived here for many generations. And I suspect we have many more to go. This is my x-husband, Doctor Mitchell Cooper.”

“Mitch please.”

Jack says to Amy, “They’re friends of the DelSol’s. And that’s Juan Carlos’s wife and son and his son’s date and Mateo’s date.”

“Well that’ll be a cozy little table.”

Slowly but surely a hush comes over the gathering as Ellie appears at the top of the stairs in a stunning black and white silk dress, wrapped around her bare shoulders, high in her long neck, split thigh high on one side, gliding along the floor as she descends. At the bottom Steven holds out his hand to accompany her.

Walking through the living room everyone greets her. Coming to her father he kisses her cheek and says, “This is my date, Elena Ford, she’s Chairman of Ford Motor Company.”

“Nice to meet you. Your father’s told me so much about you. Went to New York University. That’s my alma mater.”

“Oh really. What a small world.”

Everyone arrives at the Four Seasons in Dallas. People gather around tables, the Ewing’s right next to the Krebs’. John Ross hugs his Aunt Donna and shakes his Uncle Ray’s hand. Then he kisses Margret’s cheek and and shakes her husband’s hand. Then he says, “Governor,” shaking George Bushes hand. Glad you could make it. “Laura, you look beautiful. You’ll have to save me a dance or two.”

At the Wendell table Charlotte takes a seat held out by her much younger date. “Paul, this is Doctor Petrio Giannilli. Petrie, this is my brother Paul Wendell. His current wife Beth Leland. They don’t even bother to change their names anymore.” Beth and Paul look offended. His daughter Jolie and her date Dan Luce.” Dan looks shocked and Jolie smirks. Why she’d bring that vermin is beyond me. And his son Paul and his date, what’s her name.”

“Karin Lee.”

“What ever. Don’t bother remembering their names. Like their father their partners won’t be around long.”

Petrio says, “Most of us are not fortunate enough to be married for over forty years. Matt Cantrell was a bit of a legion. He built Billcore into one of the world’s largest mining comianies.”

Announcing to the table, “Petrio is a geology for Billcore specializing in rare earth.”

Sue Ellen stands from the lead table to the podium and welcomes everyone. “No matter where I am, their are certain Dallas events I will always return to. And what an evening with old friends and family this always is.” She waves says, “And you too Marilee. Any way like my husband JR use to say, ‘anything worth having is worth going for - all the way,’ and tonight we went all the way.”

Nice touch including the Clintons and the Bush's can't say that I had expected that. But shouldn't it be President Clinton and President Bush rather than Governor? ;)

Nice to see Mitch and Lucy back together. :)

Nice also with Donna, Ray, Margaret and Sue Ellen being there for the ball...

I did some research with protocol and says they are often called President in the media but protocol reverts back to last highest title, a tradition begun with Washington.

I figured on showing Mitch off and on.

Thank you. I’ve got some big twist for the ball but haven’t worked out the details.

Abbey stops by the Ewing table. John Ross stands and kisses her cheek. “Aunt Abbey, how are you?”

Lucy stays sitting, “I hear a foul wind blew you into Texas.”

“Lovely to see you Lucy. Mitch.”

John Ross says, “These are my children, Steven, Ellie, Jack and his fiancé Amy. And my date, Elena Ford. This is my Aunt Abbey, Uncle Gary’s second wife.”

“I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I hope you’re mother and father are doing well, Lucy.”

“Of course they are. Momma’s still writing and daddy’s working the ranch.”

“Oh I heard. John Ross bought West Fork and turned it over to Gary to run.”

“Actually Ewing Industries bought it and worked out a land contract deal with Uncle Gary and Uncle Bobby,” John Ross says. “It was Lucy’s idea, I just made the arrangements. Did the same with the Wade Ranch for Lucas.”

“Just as charming as your daddy and so much more generous,” Abby says parting John Ross’s cheek.”

Lucy glares at here. “I hear you’re here with Ben Cantrell.”

“Yes that’s right.”

“Husband number five?”

“Seven, but who’s counting.”

Ellie adds, “Obviously you are.”

Abbey laughs.

John Ross says, “Ben’s on the board of Billcore, the minning company his brother Matt built up.”

“Yes he is. With Charlotte Windell, Matt’s widow. She invited us. I don’t know if you heard but her brother Paul is working for Billcore now.”

“No I hadn’t.”

“The Wendell’s and Cantrell’s are very close.”

“So I’m told.”

“We’re close with the Barnes and Ewing’s, once.”

“Uncle Bobby, yes. I believe they were in college or something like that together.”

“Yes. Well I better let you get back to dinner. Nice to see you all.”

John Ross dances were his mother, Lucy with Mitch, and Jack with Amy, among several others. “I saw Abbey stop by your table.”

“Charlottes up to something using Billcore. Abbey’s latest husband is a major shareholder and Charlotte control’s a block of shares through her late husband.”

“I thought you were retired from business.”

“I am. But one likes to keep up. Billcore’s a major shareholder on Trident.”

“The oil company that just bought West Stars assests and includes Calco and Harwood?”

“That’s it. And Ewing Industries is a major investor too and they buy all of Ewing Oil’s crude for refining.”

“You don’t sound retired.”

“Oh but I am. Steven’s working on Ewing Alternative. He’s president of the company now.”

“Really. I thought he was in grad school for engineering?”

“Is. Nuclear Engineering. Plans on expanding our investment in nuclear energy. Has a team developing Chris’s methane extraction process too. He’s a busy guy. And Jack’s headed into an election in a few days. I just run the ranch.”

“Yeah and Ellie’s a lady of leisure.”

“Something like that.”

Sue Ellen drifts off to recall her last dance with JR.

Lucy says to Mitch, “Remind me why we couldn’t make it work.”

“You’re a princes and I’m not a prince. You live in a world I’ll never understand. And I can’t help you in it. But I do miss you in mine.”

“I miss you in my world too.”

Amy says to Jack, “So I hear there’s a coup working to put Peter Wendell in charge of Trident.”

“What?”

“I have my sources. What’d you think your father’s response will be?”

“That he’s retired. And then rank at me and Mateo over some morning meeting.”

“They said they only need one more vote on the board to make that happen. Everyone’s wondering who that’ll be. Apparently that’s the Duke Ormond’s widow.”

“Who?”

“That’s the point, no one knows who she is. She’s over seeing the Cavendish family trust funds, which includes an investment in Trident. They are terrible private people.”

“Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.”

The a hush comes over the room. Someone whispers in Sue Ellen’s ear. She says to John Ross, “That’s the Dutchess of Ormond.”

They look to see a woman at the doorway, her back to them. Lots of whispers around the room. The woman turns. John Ross says, “That's Katherine Wentworth.”

Katherine makes her way through the room, one group after another welcoming her.

Sue Ellen says, “I heard Governor McConaughey gave her a full pardon years ago.”

“I heard the same thing. She sued Pamela for the money I paid her for her share of Ewing Global.”

“You were exceedingly generous.”

“To Pamela. I didn’t know Cliff didn’t have the right to turn over kstherine’s trust to her. No one even knew Katherine was alive.”

“Well now we know.”

“Batshit crazy Cliff turned over control of his money to Katherine as well. Apparently a horrible sister trumps a traitorous daughter.”

“Apparently . . . So, John Ross, why is she back in Dallas?”

“She’s JR’s ultimate enemy, isn’t she? The one he didn’t even think about.”

“The one who had every reason to hate him and is crazy enough to hate us in his place.”

Ellie steps up to them and asks, “Who’s that?”

Sue Ellen tells her, “Katherine Wentworth.”

Katherine approaches the Krebs’ table. “No please don’t get up. Governor and Mrs. Bush. Nice to see you. Donna. Ray. Looks like you’re the only brother JR didn’t run off.” She then makes it over to the DelSol table, “Secretary and Governor Clinton, how are you? Juan Carlos. Nice to see you. I’m told you’ll be representing the DelSol Group for your father on the board of Trident. I’ll be representing the Cavendish family. We’ll see a lot of each other.” She moves on to the Wendell table, “Charlotte. How wonderful it is to see you.” They hug.

Charlotte says, “This is my brother Peter.”

“I’ve heard all about you. I’m supporting you to run Trident.”

“Thank you for your support. I promise you won’t regret it.”

“Just use it to get at the Ewing’s. I hear revenge is the single most satisfying feeling there is.”

John Ross and Ellie approaches the Ewing table where everyone else has returned. He says, “Even with Elena,” motioning to her, “and Juan Carlos on the board we don’t have the votes to block Peter from running Trident.”

Jack asks, “What about our shares?”

“Mateo will represent Ewing Industries and that’ll leave the foundation with an appointment. Lucy?”

“I don’t want it.”

“Amy?”

“Yeah. Sure. I’ll do it.”

“We still don’t have the votes, but we’ll compile a list, see who we can get to.”

Lucy adds, “Donna said she’s been appointed.”

“Yes but I look at her more as a swing vote. I’m not counting on her.”

“No I guess you wouldn’t.”

Paul says to Charlotte, “Are you sure you can handle Katherine Wendell?”

Charlotte looks away from Katherine working the room to give him a look of annoyance.
