It will be 10 years later this month, since Larry Hagman died. As a form of memorial to him here is a cast photo at a party, in November 1980. They were celebrating the revealing of 'Who Shot The Son Of A Gun J.R.?' A prop of J.R.'s stetson can be seen on the table. Each cast member touch it.

Cliff is in the Ewing building, with proof that Digger and Jock jointly owned oil field Ewing 23. Bobby recently reopened the field. The youngest Ewing son leaves the office so that rivals Cliff and J.R. can bicker; over the business of oil, coming from 23, (a scene from season 2; DVD-3, 1979 - '80):

J.R. picks up the phone: "Harry Owens please!"

Cliff: "I must say you're taking this quite well. You're not going to even fight me?"

J.R.: "Oh, I've learned in this business you have got to roll with the punches."

J.R.: "Harry, hi! J.R. Ewing here. Fine. Fine. Can you give me a report on Ewing 23 please? 5000 barrels a month."

J.R. speaks to Cliff: "I figure your share should be about half a million dollars a year."

J.R. returns to the phone: "Harry this is what I want you to do. Close down that field. That's right! Shutdown every single well."

Poor Cliff doesn't know what way to turn.

Thanks for sharing that great picture, I've never seen it before.

This image reminds me how lucky we were to have these fine actors come into our lives playing characters - which on paper - shouldn't have worked. What is it about the Ewing family which all these years later keeps pulling us in?

Forever etched into television history.

Thank you.

I think the brilliance of the show is not just down to the show's creator David Jacobs but to the actors cast in those roles.

It was really an ensemble show despite Larry Hagman becoming the break out key character.

JR might've been a great villain but a good villain is only as good as all the other characters around him which is why I think turning Dallas into the JR and Bobby show in its final years was to the detriment of the show. :(

DALLAS as the godfather of the eighties prime time U.S.A. soap genre was best whenever the core cast was all there and everyone got a slice of the pie. I didn't have much time for the newcomers; with all due respect, April aside. Larry Hagman was pulling the strings, after November 1980. Even with Larry's power throughout the power hungry eighties he had the sense not just to make it the J.R. show, as was evident with the storylines right up to those twilight years. Undoubtedly J.R. was top dog and without him the Texas set show wouldn't have survived for 13 years (DVD-14), just as if Alexis was prematurely taken out of DYNASTY and Angela from FALCON CREST.

Eternal rest to the legendary Larry Hagman, on the tenth year of his death!

Ellie is in bed, not sleeping. JR, Bobby and Ray are leading the search for Jock in South America. Ellie’s thoughts are of Jock, (we see a flashback scene; of Ellie removing Jock’s glasses, as he sleeps). She goes downstairs and looks into the dining room. Ellie then takes her place at the opposite part of the table, where Jock used to sit, (another flashback scene ensues; with Ellie facing Jock, on the Southfork veranda. Jock says he loves her and always will). JR, Bobby and Ray return from the search, with their hats in hand, (a scene from season 4; DVD-5, 1981 – ‘82):

Ellie looks up at the three of them.

Bobby: “I’m sorry mama!”

Ellie looks at Bobby. Her eyes are very dilated.

Ellie: “Did you find him?”

Bobby: “No mam.”

The camera switches to each character and then focuses on Ray.

Ray: “Miss Ellie we found the place, where his helicopter crashed.”

Ellie in a look of shock: “But you didn’t find him?”

Bobby’s eyes start to fill up: "No we didn’t find him but ah.”

Bobby looks over towards JR, looking very sad. JR then leaves the room.

Ellie starts to sob: “Tell me what happened?”

Bobby then sits down beside Ellie, holds her hand. He comments: “Mama every place there was possible to be we looked.”

JR goes out onto the Southfork patio and glances over things. He looks at various places, where he remembers his father. He shakes his pockets and takes out Jock’s gold lion medallion (which Bobby retrieved, from the search of the swamp). He looks at it; looks across the many fields, cracks a small smile and then there are tears in his eyes. JR glances up to the sky. The frame freezes on Jock’s portrait (aka Jim Davis, 1909 – ‘81). The credits appear and the closing theme music begins.
