Did Alexis have to be related to the Scott sisters?

It made everything more incestuous. Or were the Carringtons and Colbys supposed to be like the Windsors and Mountbattens?

If they weren't trying to work the Royal Wedding angle so hard, Miles could have married Amanda since his wife raised her

Frankly, at the time it was too much: Jason Colby and Blake Carrington ended up going to England to find a bride? And from the same family? It was a desperate attempt for the clone show to make Sable be a clone of Alexis--though ironically the character worked better and was more fascinating because she wasn't a sociopath like Alexis and was often the victim of being tossed aside by an ungrateful husband the way Alexis liked to think of herself.

It did work well in season 9 as the cousins were duking it out, but they could have made it so that the two of them had some other past connection and hatred, perhaps something to do with Caress and Zach Powers' first wife and what not, and give that as a reason for Sable to antagonize Alexis, rather than the Paulsen fictive past transgression of Alexis sleeping with Jason and supposedly that destroying their marriage (which seemed quite solid at the beginning of The Colbys).

Wasn't Sable's very first scene of Jason giving her a bath, and then by the time the show launched their marriage was on the rocks?

We were supposed to believe that Sable's campaign against Connie (and Jeff) is what turned Jason sour.

Feels like a big plot hole, since Jason and Jeff argued heatedly in the living room, they didn't seem to warm to each other until Jason's courtroom confession, and LB falling asleep in the trunk.

IIRC, TC was supposed to be launched the day after the above first aired; but programming got disrupted because Prez Reagan was making an important speech and TC went to air the following week.

Jason kicked off TC's opening episode by saying Colby Enterprises was already in talks with the Harbour Commission about building oil storage facilities. Whereas, part of the story on Dynasty was that Blake waited until the eleventh hour, towards the end of the 2-hr special, before agreeing to Jason's partnership proposal and announcing they were building an oil pipeline from the Californian coast to the American heartlands. While Blake & Dex were still building it in Season 8, CE had moved on to other things in Season 2.

To me the slowly souring- out-of-sight relationship that was ready to crack at the start of the show was Sable's relationship with Connie, around who truly was mistress of the house: the daughter of the family or the daughter-in-law & wife of the scion after the older folk were gone.

Moses even used his Hollywood friendship with Reagan to get the speech moved, to no avail.

Of all the things that happened in these soaps, you find this contrived? Did they find them in England? Sable was already involved with Philip.

What's not to believe? Let's not forget that every character has its own perception of everything that happened - and they usually didn't know everything we knew.

It was a cumulative effect, with Randall's amnesia and nobody in the family knowing who she was, and the fake illness, and Bliss. How much can a viewer take?

What's not to believe?

After being married for decades to a woman for Jason to claim that suddenly he does not know her based on a particular situation which arises from her excessive love for his own children is far-fetched in my book. Couples have their ups and downs. I think without Frankie around to move in, they could have weathered this. But Jason found it as good pretext for his cheating.

My feeling was that the Scott and the Morell sisters were both dragged to the states in the late 1950s or early 1960s by their parents in order to marry them off to some new money American oil men. It was very calculated on the parents parts and it worked. I imagine both the the Scott and Morell families to be loosely attached to the British aristocracy. Alexis and Caress' father maybe a high ranking military man or in the diplomatic services and the same with Sable and Frankie's father. Captain Stephen Morell just seems right! They probably travelled around a bit, I imagine India, Singapore, South Africa, due to their fathers postings and yet were from and had homes in London. After the war finances were in a bad state, properties and possessions were sold off here and there and these families needed money. So these pretty upper class English roses were groomed to find a handsome young millionaire. They were gussied up and trotted out socially until the deal was done.

It just writes itself.

Except, in season 2, episode 7, Joseph tells Alexis he looked into her family tree and her father was a hatter. Alexis though corrects him that her father was a hatter by appointment to his majesty, the King. "Very special hats, Joseph" she whispers. "So put that on your tedious head, and wear it."

Yes, that's easy to work around though. He could have did both, or been a hatter to the King when he was much younger and been a military man in the 1950s and 1960s.

Eh, I tend to imagine dad Morell died and that's why Mama Morell pimped out her daughters to rich Americans.

Maybe Pa Scott also died and Ma Morell and Ma Scott decided to do a sister act in America...
