Does season/series 1 actually exist?

There are many Greatest Hits Vol. 2 music albums but the ones that came before are just the Greatest Hits, not Greatest Hits Vol. 1.
And "More ABBA Gold" was not preceded by "Enough ABBA Gold For Now".

So...there's got to be a second season/series to make the original series the first season/series....but there's nothing "first" going on at the time the original series is happening (except for the first episode).

Same with films, the original film is not the prequel to the sequel (unless it's Star Wars).

TV Shows are usually designed to last for perpetuity, if they aren't they're labelled as a "mini series".

Also, there's been artists cocky enough to label their first greatest hits as "Volume 1", but rarely does there get to be a volume 2 because of the limited shelf life of pop stars...

No! Just like nobody would call the first book by an author the "original" book. And no producer would call the first season the "original" season. And when the first Star Wars movies were out no one called them the "original" films - that happens only if there is a sequel or prequel produced many years later (no matter whether Star Wars or Trek, Jurassic Park or whatever). And sometimes they don't: the early James Bond films are called the first ones but never the "original" films despite changes in the formula since then. Maybe it's because the producers of 007 just don't sell them as something brand new as producers of other reboots do.

These days with streaming, it seems like all series that aren't mini-series get a first season that really is called "season 1". And if it gets cancelled, then they remove the "season 1".
