Drones, drones, everywhere! What are they?

Drones are buzzing ovee many parts of the U S. for a few weeks now. One was even reported over my street last night! Some are as big as buses. The government claims to not know what they are or from where they originate. I find that very hard to believe.
I'm hoping this all turns out to be innocuous, but it is disturbing. Are we bring invaded? I'm thinking of the beginning of the movie Mars Attacks. All kidding aside, it was in January 2020 we first started hearing about covid and all the speculations.
Of course, there are those pesky monoliths that have cropped up in different states. Hmmm?

And they're trying to trick us into believing that those drones are "foreign" in origin (Russia or some middle eastern country that they want us to go to war with).

After the Occupy Wall Street movement a decade ago, which terrified the elites, the number of racial incident stories increased in the media tenfold (although the number of actual incidents didn't increase almost at all) -- and then came Wokeness, and a successful re-routing of workingclass rage from the elites to one another. (The oldest political trick in the book -- Wokeness is just the latest version of the tactic).

Now that the elites are afraid again, due to the CEO assassination, maybe the drones are just another distraction:

Are they from Syria/Russia/Hamas/Iran -- or has Santa Claus finally updated his old equipment?

Are they something the government is preparing for, or is it a premptive move by another country, perhaps a distraction while they do something else in another part of the country?

Am I overreacting? One persin I know said he doesn't think this will amount to anything and much if it is mass hysteria.

Well, nearly everybody's talking about it, you've got busses zipping through the sky at lightning speed, and the government insisting that it's "not (our) military" and then hints that it might be one of our overseas enemies we conveniently want to go to war with anyway -- it's hard to overreact to that.

Are all our lives in the balance? I just tend to assume so.

Whenever something happens that is clearly out of the ordinary, you can always count on certain people to claim that it's no big deal.

Phrases like "mass hysteria" and "conspiracy theories" are often used by people who lack critical thinking skills. They just don't seem to have any intellectual curiosity.

I have a healthy dose of skepticism because governments lie and do shady things to further their interests. That includes manufacturing reasons to target their enemies.

A local New Jersey mayor (??) says the drones may be looking for a "small amount of radioactive material" lost over the State circa 2 December 2024.

That explanation almost makes the most sense, given the hysterical tone of the activity. It sounds like it must be one helluva big loss.

Regarding @Frank Under the Mistletoe 's point, I recall having conversations with people in whuch I had mentioned in one that I questioned the official story about the JFK assasination. Her response was, "You must think the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax." The thought it could be a hoax never crossed my mind, and I had never mentioned that at all. In the other conversation I said I don't think a school or teachers should be pushing one political party or political viewpoint on students. He became enraged immediately and called me an"anti-vaxer, Trumper conspiracy theorist." I have never spoken to him about Trump or vaccines.
Anyway, drones flying all over the place and no one seems to know what they are is still a concern, imho.

Sadly, there are many intellectually lazy people just waiting to judge you based on their own assumptions. They try to fit you in a box because they have a narrow world view.

If you find that people jump to false conclusions about you or misrepresent your position, just know it's because they don't have the ability to challenge your actual argument.

I'm not sure I'd ever speak to him again... I have no problem at all getting along with people who have different politics or with those people being genuinely un-informed on a particular topic or an array of topics. But nefarious, selective, smirkingly authoritative stupidity is something else entirely.

Exactly, when the government tells you that there's nothing to worry about, you definitely should worry. I've heard the theory that radioactive material went missing in New Jersey and we're looking for it. Who knows.
