I'm mixed on it. It was a nice guilty pleasure, but not like the original was for me - I'm two episodes behind. I'm still sad to see it go. At least I've got House of the Dragon coming in August on HBO Max. Now that's a show I'm really looking forward to seeing.
Honestly, for me it's more having something "new" to discuss on here for 22 weeks of the year. Kind of the same reason I was gutted when Dallas TNT was axed despite not being that into it towards the end. :( I hope Monarch or something else takes off next season, I need a prime time soap in my life.

Nooo, I've enjoyed watching it every week.
Tommie I'm sorry for your loss and it's great to see someone was enjoying the reboot.

I really wanted to like it, but i guess Dramedy is just not my cup of tea
I don't mind Dramedy if that's the premise going in. Dynasty had no clue what it wished to be. There is a lot to be said for setting a tone with the introduction of a new series and watching Fallon and Cristal duke it out in the first episode was stupid or Cristal prancing across a bed of roses like some show pony was laughable. The big difference between original Dynasty and this reboot was the original had mature actors delivering comic lines as though it was Shakespeare. In the reboot we had actors delivering their lines with a wink, wink, nudge, nudge to the audience which fell flat.

We don't need to be in on the joke, the reboot was the joke.

It was a very uneven series, an unfunny comedy with the odd promise of a more traditional but modern soap opera. Whatever happened to that 1% thing?
I don't know what it means if a series is "saved by netflix" and at the same time I'm not sure if it means nothing at all.

The way they tampered with the original storylines and characters was a fun idea but unfortunately it also exposed the lack of vision and creativity (or agreement) for this alternative Dynasty world.
I had hoped that it would at the very least avoid the problems of 80s DYNASTY, not to pile up on that.
Nevertheless, the association with the original series has maintained a level of curiosity and it's precisely those twists (e.g. the death of Mark Jennings) that made it so entertaining.
But that still left a lot of story gaps to fill and I guess the screwball gimmickry was supposed to do exactly that. Without the vision of someone like Marc Cherry it quickly became a soap/dramedy pap with Ms. Gillies grating voice on top of that.
The idea that she could potentially pop up in any new show fills me with horror, hence why I'm devastated to read about the cancellation of Fallon Unlimited.

For the few that enjoyed this or just watched because it was called dynasty you still have a few episodes left to watch and discuss.
Maybe now, because it seemed this season more than others that they were spinning their wheels going nowhere, maybe now they’ll actually do something dramatic for the ending.
This show had a great handful of eps the end of season 1 and the show runner did a commendable job in its retelling, not perfect but she at least tried to stay true to the og
No advertising since it’s premiere but even those ads were strange, crystal sticking her tongue out pulling on Fallon’s earring was odd as were their 2 second promos that didn’t entice anyone to check it out.
We were hinted at uncle Ben in the last good Paris episode but he never appeared,
and now no Sable either, all the possibilities just wasted for Fallon unlimited, and I doubt anyone has anything to worry about with Liz Gilles returning to another show, hopefully she and the rest of the cast save for Michelle, Dale, Sheridan
Will disappear forever from our screens no matter what size. They were the only real actors on this show,
I’ll watch the series ending and hope they go out much like the season 1 cliffhanger but bigger, Moldavia perhaps? Steven returning
Iris and Celia (with a recast possibly) and get these hack current show runners to do it proper.
No Fallon Fallon, Liam her pregnancy blah blah
But that’s what’s probably going to happen
Once Netflix runs all the episodes it will disappear never to return on any platform again, that deal actually hurt the series not helped.
Look at that BH90210 reboot, it was bad not not dynasty bad and it ended with only one season, maybe dynasty should have ended season 2 while still halfway decent

impossible for anyone else to pick up the baton and run with it.
Especially as it's pointed out in the article Nexstar would have to pay a licensing fee to continue with Dynasty. I have to say reading that article nearly induced a migraine trying to work out the intricacies around these deals. We've been saying it for ages here on Telly Talk that Dynasty was being propped up by the Netflix deal. With their issues at the moment I cannot see Netflix wishing to pay that licensing fee and produce a series like Dynasty despite its popularity on the streaming platform...sorry @tommie

Steven needs to return for the final episode and helps expose Adam. Kirby and Amanda get together. Jeff passes away. Sam and Culhane get together (sure, why not). Fallon ends the show pregnant. And for the final scene, Blake sees Celia walking in a crowd but isn't able to make contact.

Sorry for the fans. But I can't say I am sad to see it go as it had more recasts than the original. I think I only watched three episodes from season one in total.

I still wish they would have gone with the prequel series set in the 1950s/1960s that would have focused on Blake/Alexis backstory instead of this remake.

Other than Krystle and Alexis on the CW version Karin I’m struggling to think of the other recasts. The OG has it beat I believe with the three Carrington children (four if you count the reunion and Adam). Its too bad they didn’t do a prequel or Joan couldn’t get the reboot off the ground a few years ago with the younger generation of Carringtons and Colbys. The CW version was an abomination and the cancellation is long overdue.

Oh, I like the idea of blending the wedding massacre (only now it's a mass church shooter, just to be timely) and then they're all taken up to heaven in Emma Samms' flying saucer.

Maybe with a funky new hip-hop take on "Stranger in Paradise" playing in the background.

I mean, why the hell not??

Same with Neighbours - Network Ten I believe had reduced their licence fee to Grundy\Fremantle when they shunted it to Eleven (10 Peach).

Hence a British broadcaster having to pick up the bulk of the costs. So when C5 pulled the backing, it was doomed.

Also The Avengers died for the same reason. ABC in America bought the series for transmission and also put up production costs. The funding from ABC helped to keep it in production too.

But during the Linda Thorson era, ABC put The Avengers against the popular Rowan and Martin's Laugh In . The ratings declined as a result, and ABC dropped the series and pulled their backing. Unfortunately that meant the series had to cease production as a result.

Someone suggested Celia wakes up from a years long coma and the past 4 seasons were her comatose dreams.
Would explain a lot :giggle:

they would have gone with the prequel series set in the 1950s/1960s that would have focused on Blake/Alexis backstory
If done right. I'd set the series back in England when Alexis is still a teenager. To be fair I was never a devout Dynasty viewer so I don't know enough of her back story however there are some hints to her misspent youth when she and Dominique meet for the first time. To begin with I'd like to see her come from an abusive environment. A young Alexis terrified of her alcoholic father or strict mother. It's clear the attention Alexis receives from the local young men she will become one of the planets true natural beauties. Alexis flirts with the attention and her strict, controlling mother is also witness to it hence why Alexis is packed off to a boarding school. Alexis hates the concept and never feels comfortable at the school since the other young ladies are jealous of her natural beauty. Alexis is visiting the local town and is sitting outside a small café skimming through a magazine...

Cover.jpg
...dreaming of a better life...determined to do whatever it takes to escape the strict boarding school. It's here she is spotted by an artist and they form a relationship which is noticed by one of the teachers. Alexis is expelled. The artist and Alexis take off to Brussels. Here she navigates into high society, enjoying the attention from some of Europe's most eligible bachelors and a few married men.

You are right @Karin Schill there is a compelling story to be told here. That story though needs to be afforded high production values as we breeze through 1950's Europe and eventually America. The problem of course is trying to get those Shapiro's to relinquish those licensing rights...assuming they still control it...to tell the story of Alexis Morell.
