I still think Dominique was just the worst at delivering those bitchy lines

She usually starts with a strong opening line, and then somehow she's the one who ends up being upset and defensive, not Alexis.
Dominique could have used so much more if she hadn't been a friend of the Carringtons - those fascinating people!

I think "Dynasty" overdosed on Alexis. I would have preferred Alexis fly into Denver, wreak havoc, and fly off to Portofino (or some other resort) to schtupp some young gigolos. You would never know when she would appear (ratings sweeps, of course) or what she would be up to.

I think Paulsen and the execs found a happy medium in S9, albeit for financial rather than creative reasons. But it worked for that as well. Alexis appearing sporadically made her much more of a felt presence when she was around, and they had to make her every scene count. Some of the tedious scenes referred to in this thread between her and Dominique is because these scenes were filler rather than really organic to the plot. So all you had was Dominique spitting out "Now you loathe me and I despise you" and then trying to will her eyes out of their sockets as she grimaced. Plus her coming and going off to parts unknown would have kept her air of mystery.

Actually, I think that's a great idea: Alexis kills one baby every season.

One of the statements Esther Shapiro made was that they "run out of stories for the older characters at some point," although season 9 showed that even that was not true--Alexis and Blake sure had plenty to do there. But after the first season which many find on the slow side, the other seasons just burned through storylines without having characters reflect on them in a meaningful way like they did in season one and frankly often tossing aside storylines or concluding them too quickly. The very same thing that most of us praise the most as catapulting Dynasty to stardom, Alexis' introduction to the mix, was also the catalyst that created the problems. In season 1, for instance, there are separate storylines and when the characters and threads come together it is in some cataclysmic, big pay-off episode like Blake's trial. But Alexis has to be in every single story: she messes with Krystle, with Sammy Jo, Steven, Blake of course, Cecil, even poisons Claudia against Krystle, and manages to even often Fallon marital advice, and of course to conspire with her. What was a more or less medium paced ensemble show turned into a hurricane with Alexis as its eye, but then it was easy for a story to lose steam if it presented no potential for Alexis. Mark, for instance, after Alexis brought him and tried to use him to break up Blake and Krystle, had to become her bodyguard to stay relevant. Similarly the writing team's desire to have her as head of Colbyco pushed Cecil out, whereas having him around for a season while she is by his side and is trained by him would have made more sense. Even Cecil taking Adam under his wing as revenge for Jeff defecting to Blake would have been more sensible.

Can you IMAGINE the UNholy trinity? Cecil, Alexis... and Adam. Together. Against Blake? Then again, I don't think there'd have been a show after said season. They would've blown Denver (Carrington) to smithereens.

That would've been awesome! Add a pissed off Matthew Blaisdel in the mix for the muscle against Blake and it would be an unstoppable quartet.

Dominique was probably the biggest waste of potential on the series
I'm my head, Dominique is not only the mother of Kirby but also the secret lover of Cecil who fathered Kirby, Dominique gave Kirby to Joseph who had a crush on her and possibly the only woman he ever had feelings for, willingly adopted Kirby, the reason why Kirby was able to go off and study at fancy European schools was because it was bank rolled by Dominique.

Dominique and Brady would've also been the shows third power couple after Blake & Krystle and Alexis & Dex, Brady like @Snarky's Ghost brilliant suggestion was that he was Sammy Jo's father and he knew the Grant family back in the early 60s, before he went into the entertainment industry, Krystle and Dominique's relationship would be icy at best but with some mutual respect and regard for one another mainly because they both hate Alexis more than they hate each other.

How do you explain Sammie Jo's appearance, though? As we've discussed before, Kirby could easily give biracial. Heather, on the other hand, gives potential octoroon at best.
