Of course I noticed the Christmas setting, but I thought there were more important things going on.
Like, why would she break the heart of the man with such beautiful hair? Did she really think she could find someone better than George Michael? Who does she think she is?
I felt sorry for him - and at the same time secretly happy that he was single again.

All in all, there was a lot of psychological stuff going on in my head that totally overshadowed the Christmas spirit of this song.

1. Merry Christmas Everyone – Shakin’ Stevens = 39
2. Mary’s Boy Child – Boney M = 31
3. Fairytale of New York - Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl / Last Christmas – Wham! = 28
4. When a Child Is Born - Johnny Mathis = 21
5. White Christmas – Bing Crosby / Happy Christmas (War Is Over) – John Lennon / Yoko Ono / Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy - David Bowie & Bing Crosby = 20

The top 5, which is actually 6 songs, are all excellent choices and any would have been a worthy winner. Soapchatters clearly have great taste in Christmas music.

I've never associated Stay Another Day and Last Christmas with the festive season.
Completely agree regarding Stay Another Day. The song has nothing about Christmas and is only considered to be one because (a) it was released around Christmas and (b) the band wear white winter coats with fur trimmings in the video.

David Cassidy vs David Soul

DvsD.jpg

As always, if you have ten favourites from both sides, then please post the two lists and I will include them in the final tally

David Cassidy was an American actor, singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was known for his role as Keith Partridge, the son of Shirley Partridge (played by his stepmother Shirley Jones), in the 1970s musical-sitcom The Partridge Family, which led to his becoming one of popular culture's teen idols and superstar pop singers of the 1970s. He later had a career in both acting and music.

David Soul is an American-British actor and singer.

During the mid- to late 1970s, Soul returned to his singing roots. Produced by Tony Macaulay, he recorded hits including "Don't Give Up on Us" (1977) which reached No. 1 in the US and the UK, and "Silver Lady" (1977) which also topped the charts in the UK. From 1976 until 1978, he had five UK Top 20 singles and two Top 10 albums. From 1976 to 1982 he toured extensively in the US, Europe, Far East and South America.

This is interesting - but The Partridge Family just annoys me, but I've never seen it (it was a TV series right?)!!!! I don't know how that's possible. I just picture a dorky family dressed alike and breaking out in song every 10 minutes before me.

1. Don't give up on us (DS)
2. Could it be forever (DC)
3. Silver lady (DS)
4. I think I love you (DC)
5. I can't afford that feeling anymore (DS)
6. Lets have a quiet night in (DS)
7. I am a clown (DC)
8. Come to me (DS)
9. I woke up in love this morning (DC)
10. Waking up alone (DS)

Jennie Abrahamson

ja.jpg

Jennie has featured in our nomination threads with high praise and I thought it would be interesting to check out some of her other work and give it the good old fashioned Soap Chat grilling.

Jennie Helena Abrahamson , born May 28, 1977 in Sävar, is a Swedish singer-songwriter.

ji.jpg

In 2006, Abrahamson started a solo career after playing in several bands (including the triphop band Heed and the country rock band Yukon AK) and worked with various artists. She started in Umeå in the band Paddington. She has released five solo albums.

You can find her stuff on Spotify or Jennie’s YT Channel

I really should just delete these posts and save myself the embarrassment
