Finally got the complete boxset. Hurray!

No movie collection? That's odd. I have the UK release and the movie collection is included and has both other spoken languages and subtitles. Seems silly that they wouldn't include it in other releases :confuse:

Why, in the technical specs where it shows the running time, does it say that it's only 395 min. approximately? That would seem like it's only 6 hrs. 15 min., which is far, far less than the entirety of Dallas.

Yes, those discs looks much nicer than the my boxset version that I bought (from Amazon) which just had plain white discs without photos.

My collection has all seasons and movies, but also has the disadvantage that not play the theme song of Dallas opening the box.

Some seasons are very sharp, others less. It would be interesting to know the details of all versions ...

Thanks in advances

I have exactly the same one as you do. It doesn't play the Dallas music when I open the box and the discs are all white and boring. But at least they are singlesided which is an improvement over the original release. The artwork on the original releases are nicer though. So I've kept both!

That's just the back of the movie collection box. Dallas Reunion: The Return to Southfork; Dallas: The Early Years; Dallas: J.R. Returns; and Dallas: War of the Ewings are all in one case and that's the total runtime of that particular case. The white box itself is 16934 mins approx.

(sorry the pics are so huge)

That explains it very well! I was uncertain what that 395 min. running time was for, but you cleared that up.

Then, to our horror Warners Bros. stopped releasing the series. And would you believe it they stopped at the death of Bobby Ewing.
That's odd. I thought the Australian releases stopped at season 6. For everything after that I bought the UK PAL seasons - except for a US NTSC movie set because I couldn't find it in in PAL.

Seaviewer I can only go by the DVD collection I have of Dallas and it stops at Season 8 (DVD), the final season episode where Bobby dies. I can honestly say I would not have purchased anything from the net in those days so I can safely assume I purchased the DVD's either from Big W, Kmart, JB-HIFI or Sanity. I've always been reluctant to make purchases from the net, but that's just my personal decision to protect my privacy at all costs - touch wood it's worked thus far. I will however wait and see what happens next year with Amazon. I've heard rumours they're going to have stores as well as their online juggernaut.

I do recall being so annoyed with Warner Bros. Australia I sent them an email. I received no response - typical.

Why would the Dallas releases Down Under stop with the 8th one (1984-85, at the end of which Bobby dies)?

There was no explanation for it. I recall sending Warner Bros. Australia an email requesting assistance but received no response. I can honestly say I wasn't the only person frustrated with the decision.

After Pam's supposed death in the original series run I would watch the occasional episode. Perhaps I'm judging Dallas post Pam's death too harshly, after-all I last watched those episodes when they were screened on Aussie TV all those years ago. I've just recently began re-watching Lorimar Dallas and I'll admit I've loved those first 5 episodes where as in the past I haven't so much. It wasn't until Dallas became more serialized that I really enjoyed it.

Just an FYI, there was no on or off screen confirmation that Pam actually died during the original run. The confirmation of her death came during the recent TNT incarnation, but the executive producer and her team of writers couldn't even manage to get the date or Bobby's reaction right. They had her death occurring during the original run when it quite obviously should have occurred after 1991, and Bobby reacting like she was just a pet goldfish.

Good Lord do not get me started on that awful story. Others have stated that Dallas TNT gave Pam a dignified ending, far better than the mess left by Lorimar Dallas. I really wish Cynthia Cidre would do a sit down interview and explain where she was taking the story of Pam. She wrote the episode, "JR's Masterpiece" and I'm curious why she would think to add the scene where Bum informs Bobby, Christopher and John Ross that JR was in Abu Dhabi closing an oil deal however for the last several months he was looking for Pam. The reaction on Bobby's face was priceless and I might add the hairs on my arms prickled upon hearing the name.

Was it Cynthia's idea all along that Pam had died and brother Cliff had kept it a secret for all those years? Or was something else going to happen? Just curious.

Lol, based on what Cidre did to the other characters, I was just relieved that Pam was out of her clutches for good. I don't think that Cidre ever had any intention of actually using the character of Pam. I believe that she would have just continued to dangle the carrot of Pam appearing in front of fans until the bitter end if Victoria hadn't put an end to it. Once Cidre's bluff was called, she really had no choice but to kill Pam off. She wasn't prepared and hadn't thought anything through. It was all rushed.

Dallas was indeed cancelled in Holland. But after the shooting of Bobby, not the Southfork fire
Thanks. But that ruins my theory of the DVD releases:lol:
They almost cancelled Dynasty too, but the fans did not accept it. There was no option to watch it on another channel.

B.J., do you remember that Dallas was shown after that Belgian programme "Panorama" and that it often ran late so you never knew exactly when Dallas would start? We just sat there, waiting and waiting and waiting. And to make matters worse, "Panorama" was never interesting to watch and they never apologized for the delay.

Her death could have occurred any time after her last appearance; we just weren't told about it.

Bobby was still the legal trustee for minor Christopher at the time of Pam's supposed death, so it's neither believable nor logical that he wasn't contacted when Pam's estate was settled. Sorry, but Cidre and her team were just too clueless and lazy to do the extremely easy math equation that Pam's last appearance plus No on or off screen notification to Bobby before show ends in 1991 equals Pam died AFTER 1991.

My appreciation for Victoria went up a notch after reading her media release. Beautifully written (with fans of Dallas in mind) she slammed the producers both old and new at the same time.

It wasn't her fault the producers screwed up the character in Lorimar Dallas. In hindsight the writers should have commenced Season 11 months after Pam's death. They seriously must have believed Victoria would do a Patrick and return after she realized she made a colossal mistake.

Then in Dallas TNT that "carrot" appeared with the assumption Pam may still be alive. We then had the CCTV footage of the woman in black. Was this Katherine? Was Cynthia finally going to do something audacious and return Dallas to its former glory by returning two original characters? Nope. We were hoodwinked. Cliff knew all along Pam was dead. Then in a stroke of madness (and this proves my theory the pen is mightier than the sword), Katherine is killed off in a sentence by Bobby.

So here is a question for posters. How did Bobby know Katherine was dead and not Pam?

You know another thing that bugged me about Dallas TNT was how Pam was dead when she could have been re-casted and come back while an unimportant character like Tracy McKay was re-casted and came back for no good reason. That just didn't make any sense at all IMHO.

I agree, Victoria played her hand perfectly. It was never explained how Bobby knew about it or how Katherine died. Didn't make any sense. Just more laziness by Cidre and her team.

But wouldn't that logic apply just as much after 1991? As trustee, Bobby should have known by 2012 either way. Presumably Cliff paid someone off.
