I can't help wondering if it's just me at the moment, but the slowness of the forum is terrible at the moment, virtually impossible to post at the moment, either on my desktop or mobile.

Are others having the same issues?

It'a notable at times but not others. The same can be said when the site will not load at all...for hours on end. I have important things to say however by the time the site comes alive I've forgotten it all. But living downunder I'm use to things arriving late.

Very slow over the last two to three days, taking an eternity to post (if at all), usually going back to home page instead.

I've had that problem too here!

Slowness is even worse than ever this week, nearly impossible to get logged in or make any posts.

And yet others seem to be posting with little difficulty?

Virtually impossible to post at the moment and yet it seems others are posting ok.

Any ideas?

We are doing all we can to keep the forums running, we need to upgrade the package we are on, or find a cheaper host. It's not just slow to post, it's often crashing while members are in the middle of a post. The site also may look like it is up and running, however, it still drags along when trying to post.

yet it seems others are posting ok.
It's not just happening to you, it's across all the forums and everyone is struggling. Don't worry, you are still top of the 'most posts - past 7 days' section.

That has nothing to do with it, the only reason I flagged that up like that was because I do still get email alerts of posts, I drew that conclusion from that. Total number posts is irrelevant as far as I am concerned.

Okay, let's say that you don't post for the sake of increasing your post count.

Can you then, help me understand the motivation behind the posts in the 'What is your avatar' thread is about?' For years you posted a change in your avatar on a daily basis and then a few months back you started changing your avatar 3 times (and sometimes as many as 5 times) which obviously increases your post count without actually thinking about anything. I'm curious, why do you feel the need to change your avatar 3 times (and more) a day? What is the purpose of that?

Years ago that thread was in the lounge and it started off as a really interesting thread. It was great to see who some of the faces were in member's avatars and also (sometimes) interesting to learn why someone chose a particular avatar. Now that thread was taken over by yourself and no one posted in it. Why do you think that is?

Another question I have is the posts you make in the 'What was the last movie you watched?' and 'What was the last TV show you watched?' once you have done that you then make the same post in another thread titled 'What's in your DVD player?' again, what is the purpose of that thread?

These are genuine questions Swami and I would love to understand your thought process behind what you do on here. You contribute well in the Dallas forum and sometimes a few other forums, but what I don't understand is your need for the threads where you just log your daily activities. Isn't that what FaceBook is about?

Perhaps there was a little misunderstanding in my earlier post, I asked the question on the basis as to whether others were having issues, for instance was it an issue with mobile devices or desktops? It was not meant as a criticism, if it was viewed in that way, then I apologise.

Regarding the issue of posting:

I will concede with the issue of movies/TV shows etc, that has increased but that has been as a result of lockdown. I am working from home, up until this week I was pretty much based in the living room and had the TV going at the same time, however I have now relocated to my own home office. When you're sat at a laptop, you can rattle through a few series of TV shows. For instance, if you take your average series of 6 sitcom (30 minutes), you can rattle through a couple of series/day quite easily. Allowing for tea breaks and lunch break, I am pretty much in situ at laptop for 7 1/2 hours.. It is possible that this relocation will changes things somewhat, in that I won't be near a TV. I am sure if you were to look back to pre-lockdown, the evidence would confirm this.

The avatar is just a personal thing, everybody has their own idiosyncracy, shall we say.

For the record, I don't do Facebook.

Ah - okay. I believe some members will have more issues than others and that could depend on the browser or platform they are using. I've had trouble with the forums acting really slow when others are posting, just as I have seen the odd posts from me duplicate 2 and 3 times. Once we get sorted with our host or a new host, things will improve greatly.

We have seen some improvement in the past few days, having found out the tables in the database were corrupted and late last week we took a great attack from spambots.

Sorry, I was never questioning how many films you watch and I know that there are many people all around the world watching more TV and films because of the lockdown. I was asking what the purpose of the thread 'What's in your DVD player?' was when it's just a duplicate post from two other threads.

Thanks for explaining this, it makes more sense now. I just see it as pointless, but that's just me and yes, many of us have some form of idiosyncrasy behind some of our actions.

For the record, I don't do Facebook.
I could be completely wrong behind my comment regarding Facebook as a place where people make posts of their daily activities. It's a long time since I tried the site and from what I experienced, it was people posting what they had for dinner and where they had been each time they left the house.

It would be wrong to say that Facebook does not have its uses but I feel it is just so wide open to abuse (Twitter and the other things as well). For all the talk of strict guidelines in terms of content you don’t often hear of people getting punished for offensive content for example.

just one reason why I don’t bother with it. On the other hand my mum has signed up to it and finds it great for local news etc so in that context I suppose it works.

I totally get the point that @Ome is making.

For what it's worth, I always prefer forum members to say what they thought of a film or TV program when they post what was the last one they watched.

When I post in the What Is The Last Film You Watched thread, I generally try to give a bit of a review of the film to encourage other forum members to engage with me regarding my views and it's equally interesting if they agree or disagree with me. For me just listing things without interacting with others has little appeal but I guess everyone is different.

Coming back to topic ... every page needs like 20 seconds to load. So for this page my highspeed connection is quite useless, when Soapchats loads with the same speed or even slower than in 1998 ... which would be funny, if it wasn't just frustrating and annoying and absolutly not userfriendly or up to date compared with the rest of the whole internet...
So if i was a new person here end experience that, i wouldn't join here and felt fooled ... and just move on to somewhere else. Is that the intention of the forum operators? If not, why don't things change and get better? When will we be up to date here and not like 20 years behind the whole net?
