How would you have felt if either of these stars had played Maggie's mum, Charlotte Pershing?

Day couldn't hack the furs.
A 1971 anti-fur campaign with Doris Day, Miss Kitty, Alice Kramden's sister, Mary Tyler Moore and Sergeant Pepper Dickinson ..... although it looks more like a pro-fur campaign (so it might have been a mistake):

Imho Ginger Rogers might have been able to portray Charlotte's fondness for a flutter on the horses. I just can't visualise Doris Day standing at the Turf Club bar, with a betting slip.

I think Betty Grable might have an edge on this one, having seen her killin' it on The Carol Burnett Show's soap opera spoof, "As The Stomach Turns".

Jane Greer worked cos she was a good, understated actress playing a good, understated role. Everything about Charlotte Pershing was discreet, under the radar, non-flashy. That's what made her so poignant. Having a bigger name, a glamorous and glitzy star, could have easily overwhelmed such a quietly nuanced character. Do you get what I mean, Arlene? Was something lacking from Greer's performance or the character as written that you think these two actors could have provided?

I agree with this. Had I been a producer and been able to hire someone like Doris Day or Ginger Rogers, I wouldn't have cast them as Maggie's mom.

This would've been good, too, if DYNASTY wasn't destined to mess something like this up.
